Justin Timberlake's album FutureSex/LoveSounds is the gift that keeps on giving. These days, an artist is lucky to get one or two hit songs off an album … but, so far, JT has five. And now he's gunning for #6. Just yesterday, J.Lake gave his latest single, "Until the End of Time," a much needed shot in the arm by remixing it with … Beyonce! Two of today's biggest names -- who just so happened to be the top nominees at the 2007 VMAs -- pairing up together sounds like a win-win to us.
This new song makes us wonder if Justin's trying to tie the record for the most top 10 singles (seven) from one album on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, alongside such classic albums as Michael Jackson's Thriller, Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814 and Bruce Springsteen's Born in the U.S.A. In fact, even before FutureSex/LoveSounds came out, Justin's posse was buzzing about how they might have created a modern-day Thriller. That would be quite a feat, considering the MJ album, which was released in 1982, still holds a buncha records. Hm … perhaps it's time to compare the two albums…
Thriller was the first album to produce seven top 10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart -- two of which went to No. 1 ("Beat It" and "Billie Jean"). To date, it has sold 27 million copies in the U.S. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, it is the best-selling album of all time.
Phew … that's gonna be tough for JT to beat…
So far, FutureSex/LoveSounds has produced four top 10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart -- three of which went to No. 1 ("SexyBack," "My Love" and "What Goes Around … Comes Around"). To date, it has sold 3 million copies in the U.S.
So … the only category JT has got MJ beat in is No. 1 singles, three to two. (Who knew the classic tune "Thriller" didn't make it to No. 1?) BUT … JT can still wedge himself in there next to MJ for most top 10 singles off an album. Lovestoned is still moving up on the chart and now Until the End of Time officially has some Beyonce power on its side. If Justin does indeed break out a seventh single, we think it should be the album's title track, which we can't believe he hasn't released yet. (It'll literally make your iPod drip with sweat.)
