We just met up with an impossibly tiny, completely exuberant, seriously flawless and ridiculously attitude-free Ashlee Simpson in the MTV photo studio, where we discussed her upcoming album, her tripped-out new video, "Out of My Head (Ay Ya Ya)," Christmas presents both crappy and not-crappy, anxiety dreams and Andy Warhol. Oh yeah. And Pete Wentz. Here's how it went down.
Buzzworthy: You've described your new album as a party album. What are your favorite party songs, getting-ready songs, or "car-dancing" songs?
Ashlee Simpson: Any Blondie song is always good. I love "Heart of Glass." I also love Missing Persons.
BW: Your "Out of My Head (Ay Ya Ya)" video's like a bizarre dream. Had any crazy dreams lately?
BW: Who are some of your other favorite artists?
BW: Did you have weird dreams after shooting the video?
AS: Exactly!
BW: What's your favorite part of your new video?
AS: I got to play so many different characters, so that was fun. There's a part where I'm spinning at the end, so getting to be on the harness was definitely my favorite part. That was a blast.
BW: What was the last thing you had stuck in your head?
AS: "Jingle Bells."
BW: How are you going to celebrate the new album?
AS: Probably just by touring and being with my band again, which I'm stoked about. They were part of the record. But I'm stoked to just be with them on the road again. It's been too long. And it'll just be nice to have the record out after having a break. I'll probably celebrate by sleeping if I don't have a lot of press to do.
BW: Got any plans for the holidays?
AS: I'm going home to be with the family for Christmas. And YES Pete is coming and YES my dad is happy to have him.
BW: Ha. What are you hoping Pete gets you for Christmas?
BW: What's the best thing -- and the worst thing -- you ever got for Christmas?
AS: Well, my family always gives me such great Christmas gifts.
BW: Ever get anything terrible? Like a broken toaster?
AS: I don't really have a horrible one. I never got like a toaster or anything like that.
BW: Are you planning anything special for Pete?
AS: (Laughing.) Um, I can't give away my secrets!
BW: If you and Pete had a reality show, what would it be called?
AS: That would never exist!
Ashlee's new still-untitled album is out in March, but we'll be bringing you her "Out of My Head (Ay Ya Ya)," video for you on Thursday. Until then, check out photos from the video shoot, and watch one of our favorite Blondie videos, "Rapture."
