Janet Jackson's back, but she could be big-time back if her new video, "Feedback" off her upcoming album, Discipline -- set to drop late next month -- is any indication of her new look and feel.
We have to agree with Blender's sentiment that this is "her most distinctive track in years ... even if it's just a canny amalgam of recent hits." But we like that she's bringing back the dance sound of the late '90s with a video looks like when TLC went through their hyper-space/ anime phase and sounds like when Jennifer Lopez was still J.Lo (and yes, we know that it's obvious that Janet influenced J.Lo, but you can't deny that the track sounds like "Play," okay? There's definitely something post-modern about that, but we're too tired to think about it any harder today.)
(More videos after the jump.)
The point is: Janet looks amazing, and the track bumps. But will it be hot enough to undo the damage of Nipplegate, of course, but, more recently, 20 Y.O. -- which spurred her departure from Virgin and a new deal with Def Jam?
Your "Feedback," please. (Sorry. That one wrote itself).
Oh yeah, and if the video's "Lost in Space" vibe reminds you of the Klaxons' "Golden Skans," it's because British director Saam Farahmand directed both of them. And now you know.
