If you need an excuse to buy one of those flat-panel high-def TVs the size of a moving van, this video is it. With close-ups extreme enough to read “Bvlgari” on the side of her sunglasses and aerial shots that look like they were lifted from the archives of National Geographic, this clip for Mary J. Blige’s “Stay Down” is tailor-made for wide-screen viewing. Seriously, it’s must-see TV… unless you’re a member of PETA. The Queen of hip-hop soul is unashamedly rocking some serious fur, as you apparently do when shooting a video in the virtual Arctic Circle. (And if/when you’re Mary J.) And she’s like, almost daring you to say something to her face about it. Or cover her in a fresh coat of red paint.
Whether or not she hunted it with Nanook of the North we don’t know, but notice that for all the nature shots in this video there isn’t a single critter running about. Maybe she should be called the Queen of Guns & Ammo instead?
