Interview: Buzzworthy Hits the Street With Tokio Hotel Fan Nikki

After we interviewed Timothy, Nikki was the next Tokio Hotel fan we met waiting in line to get into TRL for the band’s debut performance. We were amazed that she taught herself German, but Nikki was expecting even more amazing things from Tokio Hotel that day.

Buzzworthy: How’d you first hear about Tokio Hotel?

Nikki: I heard of Tokio Hotel when I teaching myself German a couple years ago.

BW: Did you end up teaching yourself German?

Nikki: Yes I did.

BW: Wow. If you could tell them anything in German what would it be?

Nikki: Um, “Tokio Hotel ist die größte band jemals.”*

BW: What’s that mean?

Nikki: I think it means Tokio Hotel is the greatest band ever.

BW: What do you love about them?

Nikki: I don’t know. They’re different. I haven’t ever heard music like Tokio Hotel before.

BW: How would you describe Tokio Hotel’s music?

Nikki: Kinda hard rock with a softer edge with some sexy Germanness slathered on.

BW: How’d you get here today?

Nikki: I got here by taking two trains from Philly.

BW: What are you expecting up at TRL today?

Nikki: I’m expecting… I don’t even know yet. I’m expecting to be amazed.

Yay! Nikki did a pretty kick ass impression of Bill's 'Der Letzte Tag' hair. I guess you should know, Bill's gone through a lot of hair changes through the years. The lion's mane we're graced with now is just one of many styles he can pull off.

Oh, I'd love to learn German but it's dead hard for me to figure out the sentence structure. Ah, I'll leave that to the TH boys :) Thanks for another fun interview, I'm loving the ones before and really looking forward to the ones to come!

Fantastic!! You Rock Nikki!!! I've been trying to teach myself German too. I kinda funny that I have found that there are allot of words that sound same in both languages and also means the same but the spelling is very different.

Thanx MT(H)V lolz your AWESOME can't wait to see who you have next.

I don't think I've ever heard the words "sexy" and "Germanness" next to each other before, but then I'm new to the Tokio Hotel thing. But mad props to her for teaching herself German and complimenting them in it!

How totally bomb - I know where she is coming from, once you start listening to TH you just WANT to learn German! Already a couple words of German I've started to think instead of their English equivalents - sometimes German just makes more sense! And it's a beautiful language, which I never knew until I heard their songs - all I'd ever heard was the German language classes singing corny holiday songs, so of course I thought it was the ugliest language ever! I mean, look at English holiday songs! 'Good King Wenceslas'???? Oh yeah, that'd make me want to learn English!!! But it's really a beautiful language, and makes a lot of sense to me. After four years of studying Japanese, I can't wait to take German in college - I think it's going to make infinitely more sense to me!!! I also like her description of their music style. The critics are never content to label them just 'rock,' they have to try and slap some other label on to clarify the fact that Bill can sing and actually thinks about deep stuff. But 'emo rock,' 'glam rock,' 'pop rock,' 'punk rock,' 'emo punk,' and all the other obnoxious permutations have always seemed so totally WRONG to me. And don't even get me started on 'boyband.' But what they are, is just pure real rock - with a softer edge and all that sexiness. That's the closest words can come.
