If Colby O'Donis was nervous during his Spankin' New Music Week live performance on TRL today, he certainly didn't show it. But that doesn't mean the newcomer isn't appreciative of his newfound fame, which, after working half his life to make it to the point where he had dancers grinding behind him on national TV, came at the hands of Akon, who signed him to his Konvict Muzic label. But despite all that, Colby's humbler than apple pie. And Akon's feeling that.
"I learned patience from him," Colby said of Akon, "When I first started with him, I thought the day I signed the contract, I'd be famous and on MTV, and that was two and a half years ago. So I've learned patience."
"He helped me learn about the appreciation that I have in life. Period," said Akon," who, by the way, was casually eating a slice of watermelon, lounging next to Colby on a couch backstage at TRL just before their performance. "I see how much he appreciates everything. No matter how big he gets, he's always going to be one of those humble types who always appreciates the opportunities. Some people get to a certain level and they don't think of it as a break or a blessing that millions of other people are trying to get. He understands that and I like that about him.
Awww. Too sweet, right? Okay. Enough sugar. Check out Colby's performance -- with Akon, of course, right here:
