If you missed Lil Wayne's big Spankin' New Music Week entrance on TRL today, then please know: dude rolled out of a stretch limo (the kind with a Jacuzzi... and chicks in bikinis) -- bawlin'! -- and stepped up to the TRL stage, and the energy and heat at 1515 B'way went from uncomfortably warm to hotter than The Block is Hot, which is the name of Wayne's debut album, if you're not picking up what we're putting down.
But Weezy didn't just stop by to hang out with Damien (no offense) or VIP special guest Travis McCoy. His long-awaited, highly hyped new album, Tha Carter III, dropped today. About time too.
We caught up with Weezy of Weezyana in his dressing room, where he told us more about his #1 smash, "Lollipop," and that adorable baby photo.
Buzzworthy: Did you ever think "Lollipop" would end up being so huge?
Lil Wayne: Honestly, I never had a #1 song in 14 years of this career. I've been on a trillion #1 songs, but none of them have ever been mine. But I can't say that I thought it was going to be a #1 song.
Buzzworthy: Which is the most meaningful record on Tha Carter III to you?
Lil Wayne: I think the most meaningful track to me would be probably a split decision between "Shoot Me Down" and "Dontgetit." "Dontgetit" is about being misunderstood. I like being misunderstood. I don't want to be understood because if people understand me, they get tired of me.
Buzzworthy: Do you remember taking that baby photo?
Lil Wayne: I actually do! I remember the outfit. I remember the shoes I had on. I had on Stride Rite shoes with the little bells on them.
Buzzworthy: Was it like at an Olan Mills at the mall?
Lil Wayne: Oh that was definitely at the mall. Either JC Penney's or Dillard's.
** Stay tuned: tomorrow, we'll have even more exclusive footage from Wayne's TRL appearance.
