While Shaheem Reid was off doing some real-deal reporting at Pink’s VMA performance rehearsal yesterday, I snuck over to where Pink had stashed her purse and stuff, and I spotted a Gucci shopping bag. And sticking out of the shopping bag was one of those mega shoe boxes that boots come in. Price tag on those puppies? $975. Dollars. American dollars. (Meanwhile I’m still at a point in my life where I’m pretty much “BOGO”-ing at Payless. Ain’t no shame in my game. But for real — all of my shoes combined aren’t collectively worth a grand.)
It turns out Pink and I both wear size 8, so Pink, if you’re reading this and decide you don’t need yet another pair of Gucci boots, hollaatabloggah, kay?
While Pink’s one of the most low-maintenance artists around (she does her own stunts, hits her head, gets back up again, does it again), she did change shoes three times at her rehearsal: she arrived in heels ringed with actual spikes, she practiced her scarf stunt in thigh-high platform bondage boots, and then she changed into sky-high boots (though not as high as the heels Christina Aguilera teetered out in at the VMA press conference, which truly epitomized “killer heels”).
Which shoes will Pink pick for her West Side Story-meets-Cirque du Soleil-meets-”Street Fighter”-meets-Set It Off performance Sunday night? Guess we’ll have to wait and see. (And seriously, Pink, I wasn’t joking about copping your hand-me-downs.)
