You know that cheesy "Hang in There!" poster (the one with the poor wittle kitty cat slipping off its wittle tree branch) that adorned the walls of Every Classroom You Ever Had? Yeah, we always hated that thing. And not because we're inherently negative (although we kinda are) or because we totally prefer dogs (although we kinda do), but because that stupid cat was hella lame.
To be honest, we prefer a more realistic type of coping mantra. Like the title of Atmosphere's latest album, When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That S*** Gold. See, now to us, that's inspirational. After all, the Twin Cities' hip-hoppers aren't exactly known for oozing sunshine and rainbows. But while MC Slug and Ant's last few albums had an angry "Life Sucks, And Then You Die" theme happening, their latest set has a (comparatively) optimistic "Sh-t Happens, Deal With It" vibe. And given the state of today's financial markets, we figure that's about as close to cheerful as we're gonna get.
So check out "You," the third video off Atmosphere's new semi-inspirational new album, and admire the odd juxtaposition of peppy guitar beats and sad "This clock tick tock and you still a waitress" type lyrics. Hey, c'mon, the former Artists of the Week at least deserve an "E" for Effort, right?
