After Madonna's sobering, heartfelt eulogy to the late, great Michael Jackson opened the 2009 MTV VMAs, Janet Jackson, along with some of the top dancers and choreographers in the world, paid tribute to her late brother in a way that made the most sense: a room-shaking, mind-bending pop spectacle of theatrics, special effects, and, of course, seemingly superhuman dance. It was an absolutely arresting performance, (I felt overwhelming privileged to be standing stage left watching the performance as the entirety of Radio City screamed as Janet reenacted "Scream"), wrought with power, emotion, and new meaning.
One more time, for one night only, Michael Jackson, whose performances brought sheer, unadulterated, ecstatic joy to his fans, danced again through the power of Janet's love and energy.
Watch Janet Jackson's 2009 VMA performance again, and watch the trailer for the new documentary, Michael Jackson's This Is It, out October 28.
And don't miss the MTV exclusive presentation of "The Making of Janet Jackson's Video Music Awards Tribute Performance," on Saturday, September 19 at 12:30pm.

Kristin Cavallari, Katy Perry, and Amber Rose picked up Buzzworthy Fashion Awards for the silvery spectacles and primal get-ups they wore to the 2009 VMAs. Now see which fashion honors Buzzworthy has bestowed upon Madonna, Olivia Palermo, Hayley Williams and more celebs for their VMA style!

MOST COMMANDING: TIE! MADONNA & OLIVIA PALERMO
Some stars like Amerie and Cassie opted for full-on color on the VMA red carpet. Madonna and Olivia Palermo, who wore Susan Woo, commanded the carpet in head-to-toe black. How New York of them.
+ Watch Olivia Palermo on the VMA red carpet.
+ Watch Madonna open the VMAs with a tribute to Michael Jackson.
+ Photos: MTV Stars on the red carpet.

ALL-AROUND CUTEST: HAYLEY WILLIAMS
THANK you, Hayley Williams. See, THIS is how you dress for the VMAs. When I chatted with Hayley inside of Radio City that night, she told me that Katy Perry told her about Jeremy Scott, who designed the LP-inspired skirt she's wearing. Hayley's vintage-rock look is spot-on perfect for the VMAs. It's youthful but not ridiculous, fun and dressed up (especially with those heels and the bright pop of color from her lipstick), but it's not over-the-top. Ahhhdorbs.

HOTTEST, MOST MAD MEN-INSPIRED GUY: GABE SAPORTA
Gabe Saporta + Balenciaga = Yeah you did.
+ Watch Cobra Starship on the VMA red carpet.
+ Watch Gabe introduce Lady Gaga's performance at the VMAs.
+ Watch Gabe discuss his VMA Mad Men style.

COOLEST THING COVERING SOMEONE'S BOOB: PINK
The sparkly pink heart covering Pink's boob during her death-defying performance of "Sober" was just one of the coolest elements of her jaw-dropping performance. I don't know what that heart thing was, but I kind of want one to stick on my laptop.
+ Watch Pink perform "Sober" at the VMAs.
+ Watch Pink on the VMA red carpet.

MOST REFLECTIVE/ SELF-REFLEXIVE: TIE! ADRIENNE BAILON & BEYONCE
Get it? GET IT? Because Adrienne, in a Stephen Sprouse dress, used to be in the Cheetah Girls, and Beyonce's wearing mirrors!
+ Watch Beyonce's "Single Ladies" VMA performance.
+ Watch Beyonce on the VMA red carpet.
+ Watch Adrienne Bailon interview everyone on the red carpet at the VMAs!

MOST THOUGHTFUL TRIBUTE TO FALLEN HOMIES: TIE! KID SISTER & DJ PREMIER
Buzzworthy idol Kid Sister took her red carpet fashion opportunity to pay tribute to the late Aaliyah, wearing in a shirt she bought on Aaliyah.com. Later that night at Lyor Cohen's VMA after party, DJ Premier (pictured with DJ Cassidy) remembered DJ AM by wearing a t-shirt with a photo of them together.
+ Watch Kid Sister discuss her amazing nails on the VMA red carpet.

MOST CASUAL FRIDAY ON SUNDAY: TIE! BRENT BOLTHOUSE & ANDY SAMBERG
Lazy Sunday? More like casual Friday. Brent Bolthouse kept it biznass casual like a BAWSE in Vans on the VMA red carpet, and Andy Samberg was his usually perfectly-bedheaded-and-a-little-unkempt-but not-in-a-way-that-he-smells-and-I-wish-all-guys-dressed-like-this self. I digress.

MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN SPREAD OUT ON TOP OF A CAR ON HER MYSPACE: AMERICA'S NEXT TOP MODEL'S JADE COLE
I mean, I'm just sayin'...

I took Buzzworthy on the road the other night -- and by "on the road," I mean 11 blocks south -- to the G-Star Raw Spring 2010 show at New York Fashion Week, where I caught up with Gabe Saporta on the red carpet (which he walked with Kara DioGuardi!)
We chatted about the VMAs, and invariably, about Taylor Swift and Kanye's big interruption. Here's what Gabe had to say about Kanye Gate -- "Kanye's crazy! It means he likes you!" and being Team Taylor. (And about looking TOTALLY Don Draper at the VMAs.)

This week, the Internet has been so atwitter with Kanye West VMA mashups, parodies, LOLpegs and so much stuff that I'm surprised Al Gore didn't have to go run and create a whole other Internet just to keep up with the contast demand for jokey Kanye interruption photos and videos. You can even have Kanye interrupt your entire website. Kanye's even been interrupting himself.
Taylor Swift's stock's through the roof, and Kanye kind of won too (for Team Kanye) by turning himself into a meme and making us all laugh through the week by turning into the new LOLcats. Here are 10 of the funniest Kanye interruption images.

PLEASE believe me when I tell you that at this point in the week I've seen just about EVERY Kanye West stagecrashing/ interruption mash-up/ hybrid/ parody ever created. Trust me. I get it. I work at MTV, I was at the VMAs when it happened, I like funny things. I've seen them all. I'm pretty sure my mom's even sent me a few. Hell, I think she even MADE a few Kanye interruption JPEGs.
But this Kanye/ Taylor VMA tribute, by Houston singer-songwriter Without A Face (he's on Ludo's Redbird Records and tours with the band) is one of the most fun, as it parodies Taylor Swift's "Love Story" and Kanye's "Heartless" and involves hilariously timed VMA footage of Kanyegate (the shot of Beyonce's face is priceless), as well as references to U2 and KANYE'S SOUTH PARK FISHSTICKS!
Okay, Without A Face, I'ma let you finish, but first, lemme say, this is one of the best Kanye/ Taylor VMA parodies I've seen all week!!!1!

Lady Gaga and her date, Kermit the Frog, were by far the hottest couple of the night at the 2009 MTV VMAs -- besides Jay-Z and Beyonce, and Jay-Z and Alicia Keys. And Lord knows, Lady Gaga and Kermit conducted themselves with more decorum than Kanye West and Amber Rose, who walked the entire length of the VMA red carpet gratuitously swigging from a bottle of Hennessey.
But it turns out Kermit was merely Lady Gaga's VMA chaperone, if you will. He escorted her to Radio City in a black limo, and after Gaga hit the red carpet, Kermit took off. Kermit was basically on loan from Miss Piggy for the engagement. Calling it a one-night stand would be wildly inaccurate.
People.com talked to Kermit about his night with Gaga. Here's some of what he had to say about escorting the most talked-about pop singer on the planet to the VMAs:
PEOPLE: So how'd this date with Lady Gaga go down, exactly?
Kermit: Well, I wouldn't really call it a "date" – at least not if I don't want to end up as a coat for Miss Piggy. Y'see, I just gave Lady Gaga a ride to the VMAs, and when Lady Gaga left her credentials in the limo, I had to bring them to her. (On the off-chance security didn’t recognize her. Hey, it could happen.) Of course, after Lady Gaga and I were seen on the red carpet together, well … Miss Piggy got a little jealous. But I definitely did get a ride home – in the trunk!
Are you and Lady Gaga going to be seeing each other again?
We don’t have anything planned, but I'm sure Lady Gaga and I will run into each other again soon. That is, unless Miss Piggy gets that restraining order against her.

Evil, corrupt teddy bears who are busy destroying the greater good and lying about it get their comeuppance in Muse's brand-new, revenge-laced "Uprising" video, which taps into Queen and Pink Floyd's vein and makes me never want to step foot into FAO Schwarz ever again. Those bears got what they deserved!
Watch Muse's "Uprising" video, brilliantly directed by Hyrda, and, after the jump, watch them perform "Uprising" live at the 2009 MTV VMAs. Plus, watch bonus Muse performances from the 2009 VMAs.

If you didn't get enough Muse at the 2009 VMAs, check out this 30-second sneak peek of their upcoming video, "Uprising," directed by Hydra. And there's more from-the-gut rock revolt where this came from: The full-length "Uprising" video premieres at midnight on Thursday, September 17 on MTV.com.

From wet paint to silver spikes to see-through lace and snoods, fashion at the 2009 MTV VMAs was avant garde, revealing, and capable of drawing blood (and at times all three!)
Check out the best, the weirdest, and the barely dressed at the 2009 MTV VMAs. It's Buzzworthy's first-ever VMA Fashion Awards! And check out PART 2, with fashion wins by Beyonce, Madonna, Olivia Palermo and more!

BEST USE OF SILVER: SHORT FORM: KRISTIN CAVALLARI
True, she wasn't a nominee, and she's not a musician, but resident Hills villianess Kristin Cavallari stole the show before it even started in her silver sequined mini dress.
+ Watch Kristin on the VMA red carpet.

BEST USE OF SILVER: LONG FORM: TAYLOR SWIFT
Taylor Swift, in a Kaufman Franco dress accented by Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, went for a silver-screen siren look and lived out a fairy tale adventure that night, braving Cinderella hardships up against Kanye but emerging the belle of the ball by the end of the night. (TEAM TAYLOR!)
+ Watch Taylor Swift on the VMA red carpet.

MOST DANGEROUSLY SEXY: KATY PERRY
Katy Perry followed the night's silver trend, but took it to a potentially painful level in her spiked silver mini dress by The Blonds.
+ Watch Katy Perry on the VMA red carpet.

MOST SUBTLE: AMBER ROSE
Get it? Subtle? Because Amber Rose wasn't subtle at all! Paradoxically though, she managed to cover up her almost her entire body while exposing almost her entire body all at the same time! Maybe she really IS from another planet.

LEAST IN NEED OF SLEEVES: JENNIFER LOPEZ
This Louis Vuitton situation reminds me of when you get your neck stuck in an armhole, except usually when that happens you're free to experience your shame in the privacy of a dressing room. Not on a red carpet. Oh wells. At least Jennifer Lopez's makeup was fuh-lawless.
+ Watch Jennifer Lopez on the VMA red carpet.

MOST NEAR A WARDROBE MALFUNCTION: KERI HILSON
Keri Hilson, in a Charlotte Ronson jumpsuit, certainly has the body for the peekaboo sensation, but still, I saw her hugging lil Justin Bieber on the red carpet, and I was bracing myself for a "big reveal."
+ Watch Keri Hilson on the VMA red carpet.

CUTEST NEWCOMER: JUSTIN BIEBER
Squee!
+ Watch Justin Bieber explain how he's "just wearing clothes" on the VMA red carpet.

MESSIEST/ MOST PAINTERLY: TIE! PEREZ HILTON & THE ALL-AMERICAN REJECTS' TYSON RITTER
Perez, in a tea garden blazer, went all matchy-matchy, carefully coordinating his yellow Doc Marten boots to coordinate with his... hands. Tyson Ritter had a run-in with some arts supplies. Rawk.
+ Watch Perez Hilton and The All-American Rejects on the VMA red carpet.

Happy birthday, Nicholas Jerry Jonas! Here's what's on Buzzworthy's birthday shopping list for you.
+ A pillow to rest your weary head after a summer of touring and filming Camp Rock 2.
+ More leather jackets.
+ More blazers!
+ A Starbucks card that never runs out.
+ Tickets to the 2010 VMAs.
+ A new leash for Elvis.
+ This puppy to keep Elvis company.
+ A guaranteed Road Dogs winning streak.
+ A Jonas Brothers cookie (sugar-free version, of course).
+ ... And last but not least, a never-ending supply of Dunkaroos.
Miss ya, mean it!
