Vampire Weekend's mix of African pop and Western rock sounds have often drawn comparisons to the 80's work of Paul Simon, who made a mint with his wildly popular Graceland album, working off the same, basic set up.
It's a comparison born out of a similarity of influences shared by the two (folk, Afro-Pop), rather than a similarity of sound between them. But on this wonderful new song from Vampire Weekend's upcoming second album, Contra, they really do sound like Paul Simon! And it's really great.
"White Sky," is the third single (or, really, release) from Contra, and it's a beautiful slice of Graceland-esque pop; with subtle guitar work and singer Ezra Koenig singing about "horses racing taxi cabs" in a dead-on Simon voice.
Contra is due out January 12th.
