There's Behind the Music and then there's behind the music. MTV.com's new show, re:PLay, gives you a front row seat to watch the nuts and bolts of your favorite jams take form.
In this episode, Motion City Soundtrack's Justin Pierre talks about the writing and recording of their single, "Disappear." He goes into detail on the unique guitar interplay between himself and fellow Motion City axeman Joshua Cain and the need for distortion on the song (he even asks that you turn the distortion on, "in your mind").
He then proceeds to give a pretty clear demo of how to play "Disappear," with its descending verse chords and its ascending chorus melody. He even gives a handy look at how to play the song's angular solo.
Watch Motion City Soundtrack's Justin Pierre discuss his guitar history on re:Play to see how rock 'n' roll sausage is made. And watch talk you through "Disappear," "The Weakends," and "Her Words Destroyed My Planet."
