This week we're introducing MTV PUSH, a new weekly music series where we highlight some of our favorite artists and the music you need to hear now, from classic hitmakers a decade deep into their career to artists you haven't heard on the radio but who still play to sell-out crowds.
Young music giants aren't just pin-up stars and well-suited, perfectly groomed guys who make eyes at the camera while pretending they're not flexing. Sometimes young music giants come in the form of unassuming, slightly bedraggled, tatted-up wunderkinds in hand-me-down ripped jeans. The kind who play the ukulele (and harmonica) and sing about sweetness and light, heartbreak and hope. Young music giants like Christofer Drew, the quietly rebellious dynamo behind Never Shout Never, who climbed his way to the top of the online music heap and acquired throngs of die-hard fans the likes of which are usually reserved for arena-rock bands with extensive discographies and larger-than-life personas.
In the Never Shout Never video for "Can't Stand It," Drew tips his hat to Bob Dylan's "Don't Look Back" and The Beatles' "A Hard Day's Night." Apt reference points for a shaggy-haired thrift store troubadour whose incredible musical talents and persona has become a source of inspiration to the loyal (and rabid) fanbase who've crowned him their saving grace.
