It's been a long time since America has seen such a hotly contested and tight election. The mind wanders back to the heady days of 2000; to hanging chads and protests outside of Florida civic buildings. Well, folks, it looks like happy days are here again: Lady Gaga has just barley edged out Britney Spears (and Barack Obama and Justin Bieber), to become the Queen of Twitter.
That's right, Lady Gaga is actually the most followed person on Twitter. Back in July, we noted that Gaga had hit the 5 million follower mark, putting her a couple hundred thousand Twitterers behind Brittles in the follower race. But today she pulled ahead of Spears, accruing to 5,741,000 to Britney's mere 5,703,000.
As they say in the journalism biz: the situation is fluid! You never know when they sleeping giant that is Britney Spears could awaken.
Fluid situation or not, Gaga is taking her title rather seriously. The Queen of Twitter released a video, addressing her constituency, thanking "all my beautiful little monsters for following me and claiming she would "never to partake in celebrity online shenanigans." Meet the new queen, not quite the same as the old queen.

It certainly has been a banner summer for bird-flipping songs, hasn't it? First we had The-Dream's clever, anthemic "Florida University," which saw the R&B maestro take the initials of the "Sunshine State" school and turn it into a kiss-off to an ex.
Now we have Goodie Mob and Gnarls Barkley singer/MC, Cee-Lo, delivering a more direct middle finger to the man who stole his girl. And the screw you goes out to his ex-girl too, for good measure.
Titled "F--- You," the sentiment of Cee-Lo's song might be broken-hearted resentment, but the sound is pure sun-kissed soul. It's a perfect combination of classic Stevie Wonder-style R&B with some modern flourishes. Cee-Lo beautifully sings profane insults, while his back-up singers add exclamation points in the form of more four-letter words, all backed by a joyous piano-led backing track.
It's the perfect kind of summer song; rich with emotion and heartache, but filled with so many memorable melodies you'll be hitting repeat before the song even ends.

His album, Recovery, went to #1 on Billboard, his latest single, "Love The Way," featuring Rihanna, went to #1, and he's nominated for EIGHT 2010 MTV VMAs, including "Best Male Video," and "Video of the Year" for "Not Afraid." Well, Taylor Momsen won't be appearing in Stars Without Makeup anytime soon. Here we see the rebellious "Gossip Girl" star, with some liberally applied mascara, leaving BBC Radio 1's studios in London, over the weekend.
The Pretty Reckless singer was on the U.K.'s flagship station to talk up her band's self-titled, debut EP, her possibly waning interest in playing "Jenny Humphrey" on "Gossip Girl" and how her band has a tendency to blow out amps when they play live. She also helped out Radio 1 DJ Fearne Cotton in a round of Dating Translator, where listeners share ambiguous text messages in need of deciphering.
Usually Momsen pulls of the teenage-Courtney-Love look with aplomb, but she might have overdone it this time with the raccoon eyes; though if anyone can pull off that much mascara, it's her.
The Pretty Reckless' EP is out now. Check out Momsen's feisty and profane Buzzworthy Q&A below.

Earlier this week, we revealed photos from Linkin Park's "The Catalyst" video, directed by Linkin Park DJ Joe Hahn. They revealed a gritty, grimy, apocalyptic theme that felt like a scene straight out of "BioShock" "Fall Out 3." (Mea culpa, video game exactists!)
And this exclusive sneak peek at Linkin Park's "The Catalyst" video takes the perilous to a new level. "The Catalyst" video seems to take place in a physically and psychologically violent underground, in a hazy, gassed-up asphyxiative nightmare. "The Catalyst" video seems to both allude to and go beyond the artwork of Linkin Park's "A Thousand Suns" album cover and venture into what looks like the beginning of the end of utter purgatory.
+ Watch a sneak peek of Linkin Park's "The Catalyst" video and don't miss the video premiere on MTV.com on Thursday, August 26.

Drake's looking part Frank Sinatra, part "Mad Men," part Cotton Club king in this total Rat Pack throwback promo video for the 2010 MTV VMAs. Slim-cut suit? Skinny tie? Swagger set to 1959? Just call him Drake Draper.
Drake will be making his VMA debut when he performs that night. But will he make a classic, old-timey Hollywood entrance like this? One can only hope.

It's hard to think of Kanye West and the MTV VMAs as mutually exclusive from the time he rushed the stage, stopping Taylor Swift mid-acceptance. Did Kanye and the VMAs ever coexist before "I'mma let you finish"? Actually, yes! Believe it or not, there was a time when Kanye West was, like many celebrities, yet another famous face at the VMAs as opposed to a pop culture touchstone that instantly references a specific time, place and "this is live TV, people" experience.
Kanye West and the MTV Video Music Awards go back like rocking chairs, and we've got the photos to prove it. Here's a brief photo history of Kanye West at the VMAs, starting with his 2004 performance with Chaka Khan and also including his 2005 performance with Jamie Foxx, his 2007 performance in Las Vegas and his 2008 solo performance of "Love Lockdown."
+ 2004 VMAs: Still riding high off the release of his groundbreaking debut album, College Dropout, Kanye West made his VMA debut, with Chaka Khan in tow, where he performed a "Jesus Walks"/"All Falls Down"/"Through the Fire" medley.
+ 2005 VMAs: Again, getting by with a little help from his friends, Kanye hit the VMA stage with Jamie Foxx to perform "Gold Digger" at the 2005 VMAs in Miami, where he almost arrived via yacht, but it would've messed up his outfit. Instead, Kanye hit the VMA red carpet chomping on a cigar. Was this an allusion to more outlandish VMA behavior to come?
+ 2007 VMAs: At the 2007 VMAs in Las Vegas, Kanye hit the red carpet with then gal-pal Alexis Phifer. Kanye got into some onstage theatrics, facing off against his chief chart rival at the time, 50 Cent, and later performed "Stronger" in a Palms hotel suite. It was at the 2007 VMAs where Kanye swore off MTV forever after becoming outraged when his performance wasn't featured on the main stage.
+ 2008 VMAs: But, Kanye proved he doesn't hold a grudge. He returned to the 2008 VMAs where he closed the show by debuting "Love Lockdown," off his stylistically adventurous 808s & Heartbreak album.
+ 2009 VMAs: "Imma let you finish"-gate became so huge that you almost forgot that when Kanye showed up for the 2009 VMAs, it was with the beautiful and bald Amber Rose on his arm.

Here we find Usher juuuuuust sneaking in under the Labor Day wire with those white pants, performing live at Rumsey Playfield in Central Park as part of "Good Morning America"'s Summer Concert Series.
Ush has been having a heck of a 2010. After falling off a little bit with the less drama-filled Here I Stand, he's pretty much run this town over the last 8 months; spelling D-I-V-O-R-C-E with his tumultuous Raymond Vs. Raymond album and prepping a new EP, Versus for release.
Usher was up early for his fans this morning, rocking the white pants and camo jacket, while performing singles like "OMG" and new cuts like "DJ Got Us Falling In Love."
Check out Usher's "OMG" video below. Versus is out August 24.

Drake's "Miss Me" is pretty much the musical equivalent of getting a paycheck, slamming a can of energy drink and putting on your Friday night's finest. No song this year evokes a swagged-out night dancing and partying with friends.
But when you're Drake, everything comes at a cost, I guess. So his new video for "Miss Me" doesn't feature any huge entourages or friendly bartenders or sweaty dancers. Nope, it's just Drizzy performing his banger in a room, joined only intermittently by a very friendly lady.
Like his evocative "Find Your Love" video, filmed in Jamaica, production values are incredibly high on "Miss Me." You'll be hard-pressed to find better cinematography in a video this year, and the special effects work is pretty great as well, thanks to director Anthony Mandler.
You might be wondering how Lil Wayne can appear in a video when he is, in fact, calling Rikers Island home these days. Well, Weezy shot his part before he headed to jail, and his role in "Miss Me" is that of an apparition more than anything else, showing up as a back-projected image during the proceedings. You did that, Weezy.
