Florence + The Machine‘s “Dog Days Are Over” has become the kind of crossover success that appeals to fans of almost any genre. Yeasayer‘s gorgeous remix of the track, featuring up-and-coming MC Gilbere Forte, is a genre-bending affair that’s immediately appealing.
The remixers, known more for their indie-rock tunes, replace the haunting, ghostly original music with a somber but incessantly catchy electro-pop backing track. ”I just turned 23, and I’m still living through a pen,” raps Gilbere Forte, adding a bit of hip-hop edge to this longing anthem.
Florence Welch‘s vocals take on a new, more buoyant quality over the punchy beat, dipping in and out of the random acts of feedback squall added by Yeasayer.
In the end, this remix does exactly what great remixes do–make you think of the song in a different way while reminding you why you loved it in the first place.
