Now is the winter of Justin Bieber's discontent. It's taken a long time, but with his video for "U Smile," Justin has finally made his first "woe is me" statement.
Colin Tilley's stylishly shot "U Smile" video opens with a black-and-white prologue. We open on Justin closing the metal gate of a store. You think, briefly, perhaps Justin Bieber is in character, playing a lowly retail worker bee. But when we see the tittering and squealing girls at the end of the block, camera phones at the ready, we can tell this is the same old, mad-famous Justin Bieber, and he doesn't seem too happy about it.
The majority of Justin Bieber's "U Smile" video is tastefully filmed performance footage of Justin Bieber getting all piano man with it, singing his mid-tempo song with passion and belief. There's some brief footage that suggests one of the fan girls was more than just a friend, as the two of them do some frolicking in an alley and an abandoned movie theater (neither venue seeming particularly safe).
All in all, it's an attractive video for a pretty song, but we can't help but wonder if it's the first taste we're getting of Justin Bieber wilting under all this attention.
