Pack your beige iridescent lipstick and your coral shoes. Get ready to do lifts in or out of the water because the Black Eyed Peas have said the musical equivalent of "Happy early Hanukkah, Amber Katz" by sampling "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" in their new single "The Time (The Dirty Bit)."
Fergie and Will.i.am and the apl.de.ap triumphantly establish their respective "dance spaces" with this new spin on the cult classic I grew up listening to via the tape decks of the moms in my neighborhood during my art class carpool.
Black Eyed Peas' "The Time (The Dirty Bit)" is undeniably catchy and boasts some fun AutoTune moments and glottal stops, not unlike those found in that Hawaiian musical styling Lisa Houseman sings in Kellerman's talent show. BT dubs, the name of the song (because I know you couldn't live... if living is without knowing that tune's title) is "Hula Hana of Kamana Whala Hula Bay." (Obviously I have seen "Dirty Dancing" probably more times than the late, great Emile Ardolino had.) In short, the Black Eyed Peas' "Dirty Dancing"-sampling "The Time (The Dirty Bit)" exceeds expectations in a way that Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights never did.
