Know what? We give the Backstreet Boys' A.J. McLean credit for telling his "extracurricular recreational activities" to Quit Playing Games with [His] Heart and checking himself into rehab. USA Today reported that AJ McLean has been "out of control" in the last few months due to substance abuse. The boy bander has battled addiction for years and had stints in rehab in both 2001 and 2002 related to alcohol and cocaine abuse.
The 33-year-old Backstreet Boy and solo artist is scheduled to embark on the New Kids On The Block Backstreet boys joint tour (the epic NKOTB & BSB tour, to which I want to add AK, because I plan to attend an embarrassing amount of shows. I'm a patroness of the ARTS, Buzzworthy readers) this summer, so we're glad he's taking care of business beforehand.
McLean tweeted over the weekend: "I love u all and wish me luck! I start my sober journey [tomorrow]...See u on the other side!" That we will, doll. Also? We appreciate the fact that this Backstreet Boy isn't going to allow for even the smallest possibility of his "backstreet ways" influencing an impressionable New Kid on the Block. Even if the youngest of said group of kids is in his late 30s. Because peer pressure is never OK.
AJ? We're glad you're taking it down a notch. Because you're original. You're the only one. Hell, we'll admit it: You're sexual. OK, enough about us. We're glad you're getting help, and we can't wait until Backstreet's (really) back.
