Hey! Buzzworthy took a road trip down to Austin for the 2011 mtvU Woodie Awards at the Austin Music Hall, where I'll be bringing you behind-the-scenes interviews from Woodies rehearsals and tons of coverage of the red carpet and show. (And important need-to-know Woodies stuff, like the bathrooms in the Austin Music Hall are seriously environmentally friendly! And Woodies host Donald Glover is just as cute in person as you probably thought he is.)
So, yesterday I talked to Two Door Cinema Club. And while the Irish band's insanely catchy indie dance pop has a certain alluring aloofness to it, (they've mastered the art of crafting detached lyrics that suggest they know what you're thinking without you knowing it), the men behind those serious, subtle songs are anything but aloof. They're actually quite hilarious.
After a perfectly polished run-through of "What You Know," which they'll perform live at the 2011 Woodie Awards -- where they're also nominated for a Breaking Woodie -- I sat down with Alex Trimble, Kevin Baird and Sam Halliday for an open and honest discussion about weird tacos, tattoos (Kevin Baird just got an amazing one yesterday here in Austin), and the most-played stuff on their iPods. I also managed to screw up the lyrics to one of my most-played songs, "Party In The U.S.A." Oops. You'll also see an intense, in-depth discuss with Alex Trimble about the politics of being a ginger minority.
Watch Two Door Cinema Club's Buzzworthy interviews from the 2011 mtvU Woodie Award rehearsals, watch a sneak peek of their performance and hear Alex's thoughts on being a redhead. And don't miss the The 2011 mtvU Woodie Awards air live on MTV, MTV2 and mtvU from South By Southwest in Austin, Texas, on Wednesday, March 16, at midnight (ET/PT).
