Hear Odd Future’s Softer Side On Frank Ocean’s Mixtape ‘Nostalgia, Ultra’

If you don’t know anything about hip-hop group Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All (a/k/a Odd Future), let us direct you to their performance of “Yonkers” and “Sandwitches” at the mtvU Woodie Awards last night — little people in green ski masks, video montages of rainbows and gnomes, and men in plushy costumes being escorted out by security. Odd Future in a nutshell, ladies and gents.

But inside that bizarre/dreamlike/WTF collective that is Odd Future lives a smooth operator named Frank Ocean. Frank Ocean released his first mixtape “Nostalgia, Ultra” (available for free at Odd Future’s Tumblr) and it’s straight-up R&B sexiness. Frank Ocean, who’s written for Justin Bieber and Brandy, and is currently in the studio with Beyonc√©, left much of Odd Future’s angry expletives out of “Nostalgia, Ultra” and instead focused all of his velvety-voiced attention on the ladies… if you catch our drift. (Hint: If this isn’t a makeout mixtape, then we don’t know what is.)

Frank Ocean’s solo sound reminds us a little bit of Drake and also Kanye West, with a tiny sprinkling of R. Kelly thrown in. In other words, it’s an epic combo and you need to hear it now.
