Dear Mariah Carey,

First of all, happy (belated) birthday. We hope it didn't get overshadowed by Lady Gaga's birthday. That's gotta be annoying, sharing a birthday with another very famous person.

Anyway, we congratulate you on your impending additions to your family. We're very, very happy for you and Nick Cannon. And we appreciate your interest in expressing your creativity through an arts and crafts project! But we're concerned that you've used your belly as the canvas. And then took a picture of your belly. And then then tweeted it to the free world.

Of your be-butterflied belly, you tweeted "My attempt @ festiveness on 327! For ATLITL thank u + I♥U! Comin soon #dembabies! LYMA+thanx 4 making me happy:)."

Mariah's babies nearly arrived yesterday, but the almost-delivery proved to be a false alarm.

Doll, we're just saying. When we find ourselves harboring intense, grandiose artistic visions for ourselves, we head to Color Me Mine and glaze a bowl. And maybe you should think about that next time? Here's to your riding out the rest of your pregnancy with a nice stack of heavy-duty paper from Jo-Ann Fabric & Craft Stores and a Crayola 94-pack at the ready, so you can capture all of your creative visions THERE. And not on your stomach. We look forward to meeting your twin bundles of joy in the near future.

Love,

Us

Wiz Khalifa, who broke onto the mainstream scene with his "Black And Yellow" ode to hometown of Pittsburgh, is on a roll right now. And we didn't even put quotation marks around "roll," even though his album is called Rolling Papers. For a blogger, it takes stamina to avoid those curly quotes, so we'll just easily segue into this photo of Wiz Khalifa, bringing his A-game to New York's Chelsea Piers last night at the "Roll One With Wiz Khalifa" bowling party. Again, "roll" is used here again as a pun, but we won't say a word. ::Zips lips::

Sporting a camouflage "Billionaire Boys Club" hoodie, the rapper on the rise was joined by friends, as well as model and alleged lady friend Amber Rose. On hand were T-shirts that read "I rolled one with Wiz Khalifa," which is, again, a reference to his album, but also to his recreational drug of choice, which we by no means condone. We just think it's a great T-shirt.

It hasn't even been out a full day, and Britney Spears' album, Femme Fatale, is at the very top of the iTunes charts. So I guess we don't have to worry about The Weird New World Effect after all. In fact, Britney is doing just fine, if not better than ever. She's the mother of two and, at 29, looks better than ever. Which is why the MTV Britney Spears special, "I Am The Femme Fatale," should be so good! It's a whole new Britney. Half mom who just likes to go to Target and Starbucks, and half prowling sex kitten.

In the online trailer for the MTV trailer (that's how things work these days, guys), which will hit MTV tonight at 7:58 p.m. ET, we see spliced images of Britney filming a video, spending time in the recording studio and just being Britney, the same girl from Louisiana who stole our hearts when she made a name for herself more than 10 years ago, asking to be "hit one more time" (not like that, you guys).

Also, did we mention she likes Starbucks. Because she Britney loves her some Starbucks, which is also made pretty clear in the special. Atta, girl!

As part of MTV's Indie Music Month, we're premiering videos from some of the most exciting artists in the indie music scene. Today, Washington rock quartet The Lonely Forest take their name literally in their new video for "We Sing In Time."

The video is one long four-minute reason why we stay behind our monitors and never go camping. As a teenage boy and girl approach an abandoned house in the middle of the forest -- these scenarios never end well, right? -- the ominous signs are everywhere: A knife stuck in a tree. Cobwebs as old as the house. Seriously, guys? Have you never seen a horror movie before?

We're not going to ruin this, but this probably isn't winning any "Funniest Video of the Year" awards. Still, it's a powerful, visually striking work that'll scare and sadden. Note to future campers: Knife in tree equals HEAD BACK TO THE CAR NOW.

The Lonely Forest are the debut signing on Trans, the label founded by Death Cab For Cutie's Chris Walla, who produced, engineered and mixed the band's EP and the new full-length, Arrows. "We Sing In Time" is the first single off Arrows.

On Saturday night, at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Nicki Minaj showed up and showed out on Lil Wayne's "I Am Still Music" tour. Combining the Bride of Freak-enstein look with a sort of "Quarterback from Mars" pastiche, Nicki made everyone forget about March Madness for a hot minute, instead turning heads with a football team made up of women in neon boots. But what else would you expect from Nicki?

We're not sure which alter ego Nicki Minaj was portraying at that point in the game (possibilities include "Cookie," "Harajuku Barbie" or "twin sister 'Roman Zolanski'"), but the Pink Friday rapper was most definitely going deep with this costume. The following night at Nassau Coliseum on Long Island, a jumbotron focused entirely on Nicki's ample rear end as she gave her mentor Lil Wayne, an NSFW lap dance he'd never forget.

And nor would we, Nicki. Nor would we. Godspeed.

As we approach the release of Britney Spears' new album, Femme Fatale, it's become unmistakably clear that the pop music landscape for female singers has changed immensely since her last album, Circus, in 2008. Now 29, Britney has been nothing short of an American icon since she burst onto the scene more than 10 years ago with her first album ...Baby One More Time, in which America's sweetheart confused us by positioning herself as The Girl Next Door who's not afraid to lose her innocence.

Since then, Britney has stayed true to her sound: mostly dance-pop, with the occasional ballad thrown in for good measure. But her music has definitely matured and evolved with each album, as she's paired with timely producers and songwriters. Most critics would point to 2004's "Toxic" as a pivotal moment in her musical career, given the track's impressive foray into a throwback aesthetic that paired tech-inspired electro-pop with old-school disco (plus, the video was awesome).

The thing that's really interesting about Femme Fatale and the Britney of 2011 is that Britney hasn't adopted the new trend in pop music that has seemingly helped stabilize the careers of so many women in pop music these days: being weird.

Death Cab For Cutie fans first got a taste of the band's new material when a couple songs from Ben Gibbard's solo Noise Pop concert leaked online. However, the recordings were grainy and you could totally hear people talking in the background. (Not cool!)

However, Death Cab just released the first single off their new album, Codes And Keys. It's called "You Are A Tourist" -- and it's a beaut.

Musically speaking, "Tourist" is definitely a throwback to the band's earlier era, with its mounting drums and galloping guitars. Think "The Song Of Settling" (off 2003's Transatlanticism) or "Movie Script Ending" (off 2001's The Photo Album).

Lyrically, "Tourist" is all about listening to your heart and following your dreams. Sample lyrics include: "If you feel like a tourist in the city you were born/Then it's time to go/And then find your destination/There are so many different places to call home."

If this song is any indication of the album's direction, sign me up for the preorder! Plus, I can't tell you how nice it is to hear a Death Cab song that doesn't make me wanna cry. (I mean, just try to listen "I Will Follow You Into The Dark" without weeping like Dawson Leery. Go ahead. I dare you.)

You know those really awesome (beautifully-tailored) jackets that looked like they're from the future and/or a really expensive European store (same thing) in the My Chemical Romance video for "Sing"? Well, Killjoys, now you can get your hands on your very own. And it's not even Christmastime or another major retail shopping period!

The jackets were designed by MCR frontman Gerard Way and inspired by the same ones that the boys wore in the promo material for Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys. "We looked so good in the jackets that we wanted to spread the love," said My Chemical Romance. JK, they didn't say that.

The coolest thing about My Chemical Romance making their own jackets (besides My Chemical Romance making their own jackets) is that they don't look like "merch." "My Chemical Romance" isn't splattered all over the sleeves or anything -- they're just cool jackets that happen to be a kind of quiet homage to the group, which by the way, is working on a charity version of "Sing," which will proceed the relief efforts in Japan.

Check out the "Sing"-inspired jackets below and head to My Chemical Romance's website for more info.
