If there's one thing we can count on in this crazy world, it's Avril Lavigne. The scruffy little troublemaker has been helping us rock out for almost a decade, and yet she looks the same now as she did when she first made our lives "Complicated" in 2002. Avril's 27, but she's still managing to make "sk8r chick chic" look good (even if she did go "fairytale glam" for her cover of Goodbye Lullaby).

And as we can see in this photo, even at a place as fancy-sounding as the Jingyuan Cultural and Artistic Hub in Beijing, Avril just did Avril. She proudly displayed her green and pink highlights, leather leggings and those signature rubber bracelets. If it ain't broke, don't fix it (?).

The notoriously fashion-conscious girls of the Far East might have a new style hero in their midst. Gwen Stefani and Nicki Minaj have already capitalized on the Harajuku subset of Japan, but perhaps the young and stylish set in Beijing will use Avril as their new muse? At least Avril can teach them how to do an ollie.

Every now and then a pop song comes along that's infectious, but also kind of funny. Cue Nashville pop outfit Hot Chelle Rae. The quartet of rockers from down south (who got their name from "extreme fan" Chelle Rae, demonstrating the guys' sense of humor) just released their video for "Tonight Tonight." The clip is the perfect mix of hilarious backstory and summer shenanigans (rooftop parties FTW!).

We were just singing the praises of Let's Get It's "We Don't Care" as our unofficial summer jam of 2011, but we can save some room for "Tonight Tonight," too. And wouldn't it be great to hear some boys on the radio this year since the last few beach seasons were dominated by Rihanna, Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry? We're not saying "California Gurls" or "Party In The U.S.A." weren't some of the best convertible songs ever, but it's time to show the fellas some love.

But back on that funny tip, look out for "Glee" star Chord Overstreet's cameo in the video. His brother, Nash, is Hot Chelle Rae's guitarist, and it looks like he hooked Chord up with an interesting role in the vid. And by "interesting" we mean "humping a copy machine."

Summer's almost here, guys -- we can feel it (underneath the tired winter coats we're still sporting). We know it's got to get here eventually (science says so!), and in no time we'll be getting in trouble for our short shorts and complaining about the humidity. To help get us in the flip-flops mood, we have Let's Get It's "We Don't Care" on repeat up in here. If you don't think this song is the ultimate summer jam, then you probably don't get summer where you live (sorry, Greenland).

Let's Get It, a pop/rock/R&B fivesome from Dayton, Ohio, drop their debut album Masters of the Universe at the end of May, and the first single, "We Don't Care," is seriously addictive. Parts of the song's instrumentals are reminding us a little of the 2009 summer jam, Vega's "No Reasons" (get to know it if you don't already), and the vocal stylings sound a bit like The Ready Set. Add in the catchiest chorus ever, and you've got yourself the perfect hot weather track.

Fetch me my Ray-Bans and beach towel, please. Let's Get It and I have a summer to go dominate.

Just minutes after performing live at the O Music Awards, presenting awards and melting downtown Vegas' face off, Matt And Kim took a minute and took a seat on the couch with me backstage after the show.

Now, Matt And Kim are known for being two of the nicest artists in the business, but they're also pretty unpredictable. Case in point: Halfway through the interview, Kim got up, harnessed the potential energy and power of T.I. and effing dropped her booty and proceeded to make it bounce and clap. Sadly, Matt And Kim didn't perform an a cappella rendition of R. Kelly's "Ignition" remix, despite my pleadings. They did, however, blow my mind when Kim revealed her rule for what does and doesn't count as a swearword: If it's something you can physically do, it doesn't count as a swearword. BRILLIANT! Swear away, children!

The O Music Awards were only an hour long, channeling the succinct directive of Franklin D. Roosevelt, who once wisely said, "Be sincere; be brief; be seated."

But the O Music Awards actually kind of started hours before that, when Chidera "Chiddy" Anamege of Chiddy Bang started on his 9-hour quest to break the world record for longest freestyle rap. He rapped for an incredible 9 HOURS and 18 MINUTES nonstop, even rapping during his bathroom breaks. He finished his final hour and entire bold endeavor as the O Music Awards ended; he entered the stage, as the audience and crew ecstatically cheered him on, freestyling 2 minutes beyond the 9-hour-and-18-minute world record. Noooo big deal or anything.

Unfathomably, after running his mouth for more than 9 hours, Chiddy was still willing to keep going in his postshow interview, chatting about the sample that saved him -- Cam'ron's "Oh Boy," getting freestyle material from his friends via text, and one of my favorite off-the-cuff topics he rapped about: "hos in the Poconos."

Finally, when asked if he'd ever attempt to break the world rap record again, his answer was brief and totally reasonable: "Um... probably not."

OK, you guys, I've met my share of Buzzworthy celebrities in my four years at MTV. Jared Leto. Lady Gaga. Justin Bieber. Courtney Love. Avril, for God's sake! All four members of Tokio Hotel. But never in my life had I ever met nor did I think I was going to meet REBECCA BLACK! It was as mythical and as mystical as meeting a centaur. A centaur with a unicorn riding on its back. All that was going through my head the entire time was "OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGODICANTBELIEVEIMONACOUCHWITHREBECCABLACK." But I WAS. Obviously if you stay in school, go to college, get half-way decent grades (except for in math), and act pretty decently to people, you too could find yourself interviewing a significant piece of internet zeitgeist. No, not Steve Jobs. Rebecca Black... who, by the way, is an incredibly mature 13-year-old (I'm more than twice her age and she's surely more mature than I am) who seems truly grounded (we both bonded about having protective moms) and has a great sense of humor. And she's not afraid to rap.

So what did Rebecca Black, who hosted the fan party at the O Music Awards and presented the Fan Army FTW Award, and I talk about? Well, first of all, in the spirit of Chiddy Bang breaking the world record for longest freestyle rap, I wanted to see if Rebecca Black would drop a freestyle verse or two of her own. And she did! And it wasn't bad. Maybe if there's a "Friday" remix, Rebecca Black will do the rap interlude instead of that dude who smiles too much.

I also asked her if she had any advice for people uploading videos to YouTube. Her response? "What you put online is gonna be there forever," alluding to the unforeseen viral smash that her "Friday" video became.

And lest you think she's immune to fact that "Friday" is perhaps the most powerful earworm ever written, well, she's quite cognizant of that. "It's so catchy," she said. "It gets stuck in your head." Oh, indeed it does, Rebecca Black. Indeed it does.

Perhaps in response to Lady Gaga's "Gagavision," Katy Perry released a video entitled "Candyfornia Candids," an online peek into her life behind the scenes. Where else would you hear someone on a production crew for a concert ask, "Do you want to go with candy canes tonight?"

Not only does Katy respond that not only will there be candy canes, but there had better be multicolored wigs, too. Because when you're the headliner of the California Dreams tour, you get what you want, even if that includes making your backup dancers sport hair the color of cotton candy.

Also on hand is hubby Russell Brand, who shows up to support his hardworking wife. He seems pretty at ease too, considering we're seeing him on the European leg of Katy's tour as she jet-sets from Berlin to Lisbon, Portugal; Munich, Germany; Milan, Italy; and Zurich, Switzerland.

And just because she loves candy doesn't mean Katy doesn't work to get her bikini body in top physical (duhhh) shape. Katy's on a treadmill! Katy's doing squats! Katy's lifting weights! You can't wear insanely tight body-hugging latex without a little effort, folks.

"People know who I am," Katy declares. "I've shot whipped cream out of my t**s, so they’re not expecting me to sing the f***ing ABC's." That's exactly why we love you, girl. You do you, and we'll just keep watching.

If you know anything about the artists on Cherry Tree Records, you probably have pretty progressive taste in music. With a roster of envelope-pushing acts such as Robyn, La Roux, and Die Antwoord (and Sting?), the label has some of the coolest, most innovative artists in the business. English musician Frankmusik fits right into that niche with his labelmates, most of whom write and perform cutting-edge electropop.

Formerly a beatboxer under the pseudonym Mr. Mouth, Vincent Frank already had a notable career in the music business before making a name for himself as Frankmusik. He's opened for Keane and Pet Shop Boys, and is also well-known for remixing tunes for high-profile performers such as Amy Winehouse and Lady Gaga. If you've heard these remixes, you're well aware that dude's got talent.

And we might be biased here, but we're hoping it's finally time for Frankmusik to break into the American mainstream with his new single, "Do It In The AM," featuring labelmates Far East Movement. It's delicious prog-pop that features that heavy, underlying thump we keep hearing these days, and it also brings to mind two ladies we can't get enough of right now: Ke$ha and Lady Gaga -- a welcome comparison that can't hurt one's chances.

You guys don't even understand how hard of a job it is having "Flashback Friday" as your responsibility. Do you know how many hours can just pass and pass while you're withering away in the black hole that is MTV's video vault? MANY HOURS. It's so hard to choose!

This week we're revisiting Fiona Apple's "Criminal," and let me tell you why. Yes, Britney Spears is an icon and Beyoncé is a queen and Lady Gaga is pop royalty, but guys, Fiona helped pave the way for all of them. "Criminal" won a Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance in 1997, and the song's album, Tidal, went three times platinum in the U.S. Fiona's collaborated with music legends Johnny Cash and Cat Stevens, and -- little known fact -- she's basically BFF with the ridiculously hilarious Zach Galifianakis.

And of course, let us not forget the acceptance speech heard 'round the world. Fiona Apple declaring, "This world is bulls***!" when she won the 1997 MTV VMA for Best New Artist, was, to date, the most swagged out ish I've ever seen in my life. Sure, I can recite every one of her songs backwards and forwards, blindfolded, with my hands tied behind my back, but regardless, the lady is a trailblazer, people. Recognize!

Rewatch Fiona Apple's video "Criminal" below, and LOL with me that this was considered "scandalous" in 1997.

Kate Middleton? Never heard of her. Last night, the only prettiest girl in the world was Rihanna, who was honored at a gala in New York where she was recognized for her efforts in trying to help find bone marrow donors for leukemia patients. While she once considered herself a "good girl [who had] gone bad," we're pretty sure that, if this event is any indication, Rihanna's a pretty good girl after all. But we wouldn't be doing our job right if we somehow forgot to point out how effing good she looked.

You don't see Grecian updos too often, unless you're constantly chaperoning proms (in which case, what are you doing?). But, yep, RiRi went classic for the event, wearing an elegant black gown and styling her famous red locks in a sort of relaxed beehive. At this point, Rihanna is too pretty for her own worth, which is probably why she decided that -- even if the focus would be on her valiant efforts for the evening -- the least she could do was avoid wearing anything too loud. In fact, if you want your Rihanna loud, she has an album just for you (it's called...Loud).
