Oct. 8, 2009, was a sad day for America. Why? Because that was the day Miley Cyrus quit Twitter. But now she's back on Twitter! Kinda... under the handle @gypsyhearttour, where Miley will be tweeting, along with her dancers and bandmates.
Miley was once a powerhouse on the social networking site but abruptly left the Twitterverse, saying, "I complain enough about people knowing too much about my private life, so to go out there and exploit myself would be silly and hypocritical." Girl's got a point.
A lot of musicians use Twitter and have spearheaded the closing of the gap between Them and Us, giving normal folks (just like us!) insight into their every move, thought and recording session. And fans love it, because what's better than feeling as connected to an artist as we are to their music? But Miley is absolutely right -- when you're famous, breaking that "fourth wall" between who you are and what your fan base wants from you can become fraught with too many details -- enough to shatter the dreams of fans who imagine you one way and then experience you another. TMI hurts, you guys.
Nevertheless, we love us some Miley y'all, so we're glad to have her back in any capacity. And the fact that she's returned to Twitter in a more... constrained way, realizing that too much sharing can be disadvantageous to both a superstar and her throngs of fans, may prove that she's all grown up! Somewhere, Billy Ray is weeping quietly.
+ Follow Miley on Twitter @gypsyhearttour.
