You know you missed them. But your prayers will be answered when the original white boys of rap, The Beastie Boys, drop a new album on May 3 called Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 2, the eighth album in their extensive discography. A new track, "Make Some Noise," recently surfaced. You can listen to it on their blog, where Mike D writes, "This wasn’t really part of the plan, but since this track is out there we wanted to let you hear it here first, or maybe second." Sounds like the boys, who are now grown men, are well aware that, in 2011, nobody's waiting outside a Sam Goody at midnight to hear an album anymore.
We realize it may be premature to drape the legendary NYC outfit in praise, but what the hell? We'll do it anyway, since the song is so effing good. "Make Some Noise" brings to mind both the Beasties' early "party music" from the Licensed To Ill era, as well as a good amount of sonic similarity to their flawless work on Ill Communication.
If "Make Some Noise" is any indication, The Beastie Boys have reached a post-perfection pinnacle (as in, they've passed the point of perfection). They're playing in that unknown space few artists have gone when they've mastered their craft and keep moving forward. And they're reached the point where they're marrying their signature sound of rock-inspired ram jams with headbanging party anthems that don't make you feel stupid or too old for headbanging.
