The MTV O Music Awards sought out some of the best, most unique independent music blogs around today in a category aptly named Best Independent Music Blog, which included blogs that cover everything from hip-hop to dance music to food-inspired indie rock. Each blog's loyal readership liked, tweeted and rallied behind their favorite indie blog. The fans voted; we merely counted. And without further ado, we present the MTV O Music Award winner for Best Independent Music Blog: Aquarium Drunkard.
Founded in 2005 by Justin Gage, Aquarium Drunkard is a Los Angeles-based music blog that features an eclectic mix of music that bridges the gap between contemporary indie with vintage garage, psych, folk, country, funk, R&B, soul and everything that falls in between.
Since Aquarium Drunkard's inception, the site has grown into a hosted concert series and a record label, Autumn Tone Records as well as a two-hour block of satellite radio on Sirius/XM's XMU station.
Just as Aquarium Drunkard loves music, musicians themselves have reciprocated. Check out what John Gourley from Portugal. The Man and Will Johnson from Centro-matic had to say about Aquarium Drunkard:
"Aquarium Drunkard is more than just a music blog... I am not just saying that Aquarium Drunkard extends beyond the subject of music, but that it is an honest opinion of current music as well as a valuable lesson in music history. Honest being key. AD is not a hype-driven blog; it is not something made solely for buzz bands but for the progressive and the true music fan. I met Justin about two years ago, and though our talks are not the most frequent, they always stand out. Always memorable. He is -- I hope this is not offensive -- one of the biggest music nerds I know. Great taste, great understanding of music, valuable opinion and the person you would want to DJ your rock/soul/punk/surf etc. night. The best. What a nerd..." -- John Gourley, Portugal The Man
"Aquarium Drunkard is a much needed, multidimensional, undying conduit of information for this music fan. A flagship of independent culture to be relied upon." -- Will Johnson, Centro-matic
Congrats to Justin Gage and the contributors behind the blog! Be sure to read Aquarium Drunkard if you don't already, and watch the O Music Awards live at OMusicAwards.com on Thursday, April 28, at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT.

Last night Kelly Osbourne showed up at the finale party in New York for the third season of the Logo show "RuPaul's Drag Race." If you've been watching the show, you'll note that Kelly is pictured with Mariah, a stunning lady whose run on the show was cut way, way too early (if you ask us). Nevertheless, Kelly was also joined by Adam Lambert and six -- six! -- finalists from the series, including runner-up Manila Luzon and the crowned queen herself, Raja.
Growing up with certifiably iconic rock star dad Ozzy Osbourne, Kelly has surely been around her share of glammed-up ladies and gentlemen in her day. Even if Black Sabbath does fall into the category of "Least Gay Music Ever" (take it from someone who knows), there's still an undeniably fierce rock sensibility that comes with it, so we doubt Mariah or Manila or Raja -- or any of the "Drag Race" game -- shocked Kelly with their billowy hair, juicy lips or "garage doors" (definition: when one wears a giant, monochromatic shade of eye shadow). Anyway, Kelly's fierce, Mariah and Raja are too, everyone wins.

It's been a long damn time (six years, actually) since we've heard much from Kate Bush, the doyenne of artful prog-pop who influenced nearly every artist in our iPod -- Florence Welch and Bjork, Bat For Lashes and Big Boi, Kele Okereke of Bloc Party. But her new album, Director's Cut, will finally be released next month and will feature revisited work from her previous albums. The first single is "Deeper Understanding," featuring the remarkable video below.
Kate Bush -- much like Stevie Nicks -- was one of the first female musicians to inhabit a sort of celestial, empyrean sound that matched her interplanetary sound with her gypsy-on-the-run look. Decades before Lady Gaga was raising her paws, out and proud about her overt peculiarity, Kate Bush was doing the beautiful weirdo of the moment. We can safely say there would be no Gaga without Kate Bush. If you haven't paid this woman a musical debt of gratitude, start now.
With "Deeper Understanding," Kate delves into a chilling technological abyss in which she sings about "turning to her computer, spending [her] evenings with it like a friend." In both the song and the video, which Kate Bush herself directed, it appears that she's pointing her finger at the way in which technology shapes not only our lives but music too. Kate seems hungry to find out whether technology is hurting us or helping us. Now that every music fan knows what Auto-Tune is -- and how prevalent it has become in pop music -- she ironically employs Auto-Tune herself in a way that chills instead of inspiring partying or taking more shots.
Look for cameos from British comic Noel Fielding, and while there's debate about whether or not that's Kate Bush herself around 3:45, we think that's actually actress Frances Barber. The main character is played by Robbie Coltrane -- Hagrid from Harry Potter -- and Kate Bush's son appears as the computer program itself. It's a lot to process but well worth repeated views.

Much like Justin Bieber fans, Smashing Pumpkins fans are also quite the zealous type. (Don't stone me for comparing you guys!) Many have supported the band since their humble beginnings in Chicago and followed them throughout the ups and downs of their impressive 23-year history. Fans have stuck by the group through various lineup changes, breakups and comebacks. And now the Pumpkins are returning the favor -- they're releasing remastered reissues of their entire music catalog over the course of the next three years. I now grant you permission to bust out those Zero T-shirts.
The Smashing Pumpkins' reissues, the first of which are Gish and Siamese Dream, are set for a fall release. The albums will feature not only remastered tracks from the originals but also some mysterious-sounding "bonus material." Frontman Billy Corgan recently tweeted about discovering some early Smashing Pumpkins recordings, but fans will have to wait until the reissues drop to see what the albums will actually include. Their commercial hit Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness will be rereleased in 2012.
I can't be the only one excited about all of this '90s stuff coming full circle. First, MTV2 announced they were resurrecting "120 Minutes." And over here at Buzzworthy, we're doing "Flashback Fridays," highlighting old-school videos every Friday. And now we get new/old Smashing Pumpkins?! BRB, getting "The Rachel" again. (#joking)

The wait is finally over! After months of ruthless taunting and teasing -- dropping still photos, video previews and celebrity cameo hints -- "Fight For Your Right (Revisited)," the Beastie Boys' 30-minute short film and follow-up to 1986's "(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party!)," is ready for your viewing pleasure.
We've already told you about the all-star cast of actors and actresses who crop up in the video, but in addition to the debauched limo rides and bodega break-ins, we finally get the full plot. The titular party in the 1986 song is still raging when MCA, Ad-Rock and Mike D slink out of the house, escape questioning from concerned parents Stanley Tucci and Susan Sarandon (LOL!!) and go on a rampage of New York City. Businessmen are scared. Restaurants? Destroyed. Drugs consumed. Just another day for 1986-era Beasties.
The crux of the movie is a dance showdown with the group's future selves, played by John C. Reilly, Jack Black and Will Ferrell, who turn out to be just as inept as their younger versions (Seth Rogen, Danny McBride and Elijah Wood). While we see some ridiculous moves from both generations, we weren't prepared for the bodily fluid battle that subsequently ensues. Luckily, three cops, played by the real Beasties, are there to bust it up. But once the stream starts, it's kinda too late.
The group ends the movie with the teaser "To be continued. Check back in 25 years." By that point, the members will be in their 70s, and the unintentional bodily fluid discharges may not be so funny. But enjoy for now!

Don't be put off or confused by "Holdin On To Black Metal," the new song from your favorite Southern longhairs My Morning Jacket. The Louisville, Kentucky, quintet haven't decamped to Norway to practice the Dark Arts and throw a sheep's head in the crowd. Instead, the second song released from Circuital, the band's upcoming sixth album, swings with the same guitar funk vibe that defined the best songs on 2008's Evil Urges.
On "Metal," My Morning Jacket's fuzzed-out psychedelic soul blends 1960s Tropicalia with a horn-drenched interlude reminiscent of classic up-tempo soul albums. Children's choirs are inevitably a gamble -- more experienced bands have tried and failed -- but My Morning Jacket's risk works, as the choir provides a melodic counterbalance to the gritty guitar riff that anchors the track. Also, anything involving a bunch of kids yelling "Black Metal" is a good start.
Lyrically, the song uses the extreme metal genre as a metaphor for retaining your childhood pleasures, with frontman Jim James singing, "It's a darkness you cant deny/But it don't belong in a grown-up mind/Distortion finds its place in a youngster's eyes/Coming into life you need its grind/But at a certain point you gotta let it go/Or it will cross the permanent threshold."
My Morning Jacket's Circuital is out May 31.

Come this summer, Justin Bieber will help you avoid cavities. Because a Justin Bieber toothbrush ACTUALLY EXISTS. And. It. Sings.
From a basically brilliant company called Brush Buddies, the Justin Bieber toothbrush, emblazoned with of the teen heartthrob himself, will play snippets of "Love Me" and "Baby" while you scrape away the remains of dinner nestled between your teeth for two minutes (suggested brushing time). But it doesn't end there. There is an entire line of Bieber-themed dental care, including flossers boasting Justin's signature to a travel kit that comes with a tongue scraper! And, adults, there is a Justin Bieber toothbrush made for your enormous, adult-size mouth, too.
The Justin Bieber toothbrush opportunity is twofold: Not only will you have a great time achieving ideal dental hygiene, but your smile will be even prettier, which is a win/win situation if you're going to a Bieber concert. Obviously, the dude just wants to see "U Smile."

If you haven't already checked him out yet, do yourself a solid and get to know Tinie Tempah. The British emcee stopped by MTV's "The Seven" and enrolled viewers in "Tinie Tempah 101." Before performing his single "Written In The Stars," the rapper chatted with host Kevin Manno about his collaboration with Wiz Khalifa, what he misses about England and his desire to work with Kanye West in the future. Did we mention he says it all in a British accent while looking like our dream dude in Ray-Bans? Win-win.

The MTV O Awards, which recognize achievements in the field of digital music, or "MAKING THE INTERNET AWESOME," will air live, Thursday night, at OMusicawards.com. We'll be handing out awards for all things that live online, some of which jump off your screen or smartphone and into the real world, making their way into television, books and the national conversation (for example, Rebecca Black can thank the internet for helping tweet, reblog and IM her into the center of the zeitgeist).
One of our favorite O Music Award categories is Favorite Animated GIF, or a piece of moving animation that isn't a picture, but not quite a video, either. GIFs are popular on the internet because they so often encapsulate the most overt to the most nuanced facial expression, hand gesture or dance move, or they fail with impeccable timing. Just one look at all the nominees, and you'll understand why one would want to paste Lady Gaga licking her finger, Kanye West's emotional transgressions, Nicki Minaj twirling her gum or Katy Perry shooting whipped cream from her perky bosom onto their Tumblr.
But only one animated GIF could reign supreme at the O Music Awards. And that animated GIF is... Nicki Minaj gum twirl! The Harajuku Barbie's gum gymnastics simply killed it with voters who most likely want to line their Facebook pages with gifs of Nicki just being Nicki.
Watch MTV TJ Gabi Gregg announce Nicki Minaj's Gum Twirl as the winner of the Best Animated GIF and watch the O Music Awards live, right here on Thursday, April 28, at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT.

Hey Britney Spears,
You say you DON'T want to lose control (calorically speaking), and lady, we TOTALLY feel that. We love that on your upcoming tour, you've banned junk food, essentially imposing a restraining order on cookie dough ice cream, along with hot dogs and pizza. You're basically declaring some of our favorite foods "toxic." It's you against the music against a meat lover's pizza against cheesy breadsticks. Britney Spears, you are JUST LIKE US! If we're within a nautical mile of cookie dough ice cream, we start getting the vapors. Sometimes we skip the rice aisle at the supermarket because just seeing Uncle Ben's name reminds us of JERRY, and suddenly we're bringing three empty cartons of ice cream to the cash register. (Don't laugh, dear reader. You KNOW you've done it too.) We've also been known to buy a cylinder of the Pillsbury stuff straight up with all the intent in the world to bake it, until we get one whiff and of the open package and proceed to consume half of it before anyone's noticed, just narrowly avoiding salmonella. UGH. WHY DO THEY MAKE RAW COOKIE DOUGH SO DELICIOUS!??!
HOOOO boy. Where were we? RIGHT, you've effectively declared those goodies DTY (dead to you), and we're impressed with your outta sight/outta mind diet regimen. And isn't the acronym WWBD (What Would Britney Do) the mantra we should all be following? IT IS). Maybe we can go together to test out Slimmons Studio for some light cardio together? I'll listen to my iPod chock-full of Britney and you can listen to your inner monologue (same thing)?
Yours in fitness and celery stix,
Us
