We weren't supposed to see it until this evening on E!, but maybe Lady Gaga knew, deep down, that the music video for "Judas" would hit the internet early, as did the single. And, as usual, it's a LADY GAGA VIDEO, meaning it's chock-full of grandiose Judeo-Christian imagery, including -- among other things -- bikers, baptisms, glam crucifixes, waves crashing, group dance numbers, a stoning, fire, tears and (what you'll likely be hearing about most) a lipstick gun.
Gaga has done it again, bringing new life to the music video medium. The endless barrage of loaded symbolism brings to mind Madonna's "Like A Prayer" (we know, we know: Gaga doesn't appreciate comparisons to other artists, but in this case, it's certainly inevitable). Gaga, as usual, looks amazing, sporting enormous claw-like nails, a skunk-like wig, and a slew of avant-garde gowns, which we'll go ahead and assume are Alexander McQueen, since the "Judas" video is an homage to the late designer, Catholicism and faith, and, let's be honest, Gaga herself.
So, yeah, the "Judas" video is ambitious, strange, beautiful and deeply thought-provoking, much like Gaga herself. But would you expect anything less?
The full-length uncut version of Lady Gaga's "Judas" video premieres tonight at 7 p.m. ET on E!
