Guys. GUYS. It's Flashback Friday here at Buzzworthy, when we put on a beer-sippy hat (OK we don't, but that'd be funny) and examine an old but still amazing piece of pop music from the olden days. Like the late '90s. So let's talk about Destiny's Child's "Bug A Boo."
The year was 1999, and the world was a different place: Beyoncé had a last name (Knowles), she coordinated all of her outfits with three other people at all times (Destiny's Child) and no one had ever heard of "Sasha Fierce." Also in 1999, Mark Zuckerberg was 15 (no Facebook!!!), you had to connect to the internet using dial-up and cell phones were only for rich businessmen. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
But (thankfully?), things change. Nowadays, we're a bit more incessantly updating everyone about what we're doing every second of the day connected. But back in the day, being up in someone's grill 24/7 was not a good thing. According to Destiny's Child, that made you a "bug a boo." Not hot.
While we're still waiting for the term "bug a boo" to catch on, the song is one of our favorite Destiny's Child songs, and it still manages to sound like it could have been released yesterday. Well, except for those pager and MCI references. R.I.P.
Watch Destiny's Child's "Bug A Boo" video below, and wait, how does Beyoncé still look the same?! That was 12 years ago!
