Ever since Jimi Hendrix lit his guitar on fire in 1967, hard rock and heavy metal acts have always stuck by a simple, yet unwavering, maxim: fire = cool. Las Vegas rockers Adelitas Way channel this trope in their new video for "Sick," a dizzying visual display showcasing the band's love of pyrotechnics and tunnels.
As the anthemic intro gives way to angst-laden chords, the hallucinogenic, kaleidoscopic cinematography looks like we feel after a typical night in Vegas. As for all of the burning objects, we're guessing the band is literalizing Rick DeJesus' lines, "If I was sick like you/I would feed the fire/I would light it up/And watch it all drop down." Did we mention that for a hard-rock band, fire always wins? Or maybe, given the video's reddish hues and description of Las Vegas by many as a "burning hellhole," this whole video is just one giant tribute to their home city. So many questions.
If you're going the fire route, guys, all you need is a flame-retardant suit and slow-mo cameras and you'll have an indelible video that'll last a generation. But burning shopping carts work just as well, I suppose.
"Sick" is the first single off the band's upcoming second album, Home School Valedictorian.
