Remember the adorably benign Sanjaya Malakar from the sixth season of "American Idol"? Perhaps you're one of the many, many voters who helped him last longer than anyone thought he would, or should. Or maybe you went on a hunger strike to try to get him eliminated. Regardless, you probably heard his name around the watercooler (or wherever you go to talk about television) quite a lot in 2007. But did you know he's still singing his little heart out?
It's true! Sanjaya is back with a new single, a cover of the 1981 classic "Tempted" by the band Squeeze. Taken from his upcoming albumĀ Life ~ Love ~ Music, the single was produced by former Billy Joel bass player Larry Russell. And Sanjaya does a decent job with the song, but it's sort of funny to imagine him on some sort of business trip, briefcase in hand, wondering whether or not to cheat on his wife. (Moral advice: Don't!) The single's cover art is also amusing. Sanjaya and his "tempting" lady friend are looking pretty good, but as always, his goofy hair distracts. Is this song going to be Sanjaya's comeback, or should he have left it to karaoke singers and Burger King commercials? Listen to a clip over at Rickey.org if you're curious. If you like it, it's available for download on Sanjaya's website.
