Pink haired rapstress Nicki Minaj released one hell of a song via her Twitter yesterday. It's called "Catch Me," and let us tell you: It's ill like a sickness. Her collaboration with super producer Swizz Beatz was originally supposed to be a bonus song sold on copies of Pink Friday at Best Buy, but Nicki dropped it as a single, because that's how independent women do.
The song veers from near Taiko-style drums during the verse to a moody breakdown which flows into a shimmering chorus with Nicki singing "Can she catch me?" Why wasn't this on the final album? Well, according to an Idolator report, Nicki said in an interview with Hot 93.7 from June of last year that "Catch Me" was definitely going to be on the album. Here's the quote:
“It's a little singing, a little rapping, but it's like a different vibe. It's a moody vibe. It's just dope. And the beat sounds really futuristic, but it's mellow futuristic. It puts you in this weird… like you're high type s***, even though I don't get high and I never have."
Hopefully we'll be hearing more collabs like this from Nicki and Swizz in the near future.
