For most Americans, summer starts on Memorial Day weekend or whenever your big-box store of choice holds some massive sale where people hurt each other trying to get in at 6 in the morning. For us, the season doesn't officially kick off until Cali rapper Shwayze and singer-songwriter Cisco Adler drop a new video. (It's just a weird little thing we have.) This year, the duo give us "Butterflies," a blissed-out stoner-rap track that doubles as the first single off the group's latest EP, The W's.
"Four-twenty. The Roxy. Hollywood. and Shwayze. It couldn't be more perfect," says one teenage fan at the beginning of the video. Combining footage from the group's April 20th show at L.A. institution The Roxy with studio footage of the guys rapping, strumming guitars and comparing silly hats, "Butterflies" captures both their studio work and their live show. And yes, April 20 is "4/20" in case you didn't know the group's favorite hobby. Also, don't do drugs.
Between the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean and the constant nonchalant looks on Cisco and Shwayze's faces, you couldn't get more California unless they decided to bring back "The O.C." (NOTE: Josh Schwartz, if you're reading this, PLEASE bring back "The O.C."!!!) If we learn anything from "Butterflies," it's that living near a beach with near-perfect weather and a rock star's budget allows you to live the most laid-back lifestyle on the planet. Yes. We're jealous.
