He might be pimping out his Bad Meets Evil album right now, but that doesn't mean Eminem can't keep releasing videos for songs off his 2010 comeback album, Recovery, right? His dramatic, highly NSFW new video "Space Bound" combines the cinematic skills of director Joseph Kahn with Em's tendencies to treat his music and videos like therapy sessions, and the result is compelling, sad, and a little bit confusing.
The video starts with Eminem walking by himself down a deserted road, then getting picked up by someone in a cool classic car. That someone turns out to be his girlfriend, played by former porn actress Sasha Grey, who has been making quite a name for herself in non-porn projects lately. I'd probably be pretty excited to be picked up by Sasha Grey if I were him, but Eminem is full of angst, splitting into two different people as he spits brooding rhymes about a "blood-sucking succubus."
Eminem decides that she's cheating on him and starts to violently attack her, at which point she disappears (was she ever really there?) and he turns his anger inwards in a gruesome, disturbing scene that depicts him shooting himself in the head. Some say it's about his relationship with on-again, off again wife Kim; Sasha Grey speaks more generally, telling MTV News that it shows "even the strongest of love meets destruction at some point." One thing's for sure, though: this man has demons.
