Sign me up for any album that's described as a "John Mayer, Mraz, kind of Robin Thicke, Justin Timberlake area all smashed together." That's a verbatim description by none other than Mark Ballas himself. The "Dancing With The Stars" celeb's new album, HurtLoveBox, is out now and most definitely lives up to its lofty description. Mark's voice is smooth like Justin's, but his songs have the melodic intricacies that's won Jason Mraz so many fans.
Mark Ballas sat down with Buzzworthy for an exclusive interview about his new album, his many talents and his dance skills. Of his self-coined HurtLoveBox album title, Mark describes that "ever since I was a kid, I always kept my memories in boxes. Whether it's photographs, or a wine cork from a first date, I keep all these things in shoe boxes because I have a problem letting go apparently!" Mark also shared his list of dream collaborators, which includes "American Idol" finalist Pia Toscano. Aww!
One thing he hasn't let go of, though, is his love of dance. Though Mark did admit that if he could "pick one path, it would be music" and "he's achieved everything he ever wanted as a dancer," he still had time to teach us some sick dance moves for those of you out there who wanna dance like Mark or whose dance repertoire's grown stale. Mark's go-to move is called the "House Basic" and goes beyond the tried-and-true fist pump (you listening, "Jersey Shore" cast?). As far as I can tell, it involves a jump forward, a foot tap, a foot slide and a hip sway. It looks kinda doable even to this writer who's got two left feet (no, not literally -- it's a saying), so I'm off to go try it out. Good thing my office has a door.
