Following the postapocalyptic craziness of her "Run the World (Girls)" video, Beyoncé's "Best Thing I Never Had" video has her switching gears entirely to create a much more intimate expression of schadenfreude. The clip opens with Beyoncé just casually hanging out in some borderline scandalous bridal lingerie (because why not?) while she's reviewing video footage of her old relationship. Turns out her ex was a jerk (stars -- they're just like us!), so she spends most of the video gloating over the fact that he messed up his chances with her -- she's about to marry someone else.
The video then takes us to Queen B's wedding -- totally fit for royalty! -- wherein she wears a fabulous dress and smiles uncontrollably, which is what all happy brides do during their nuptials. The video groom seems like a good enough catch (handsome and enjoys dancing with her and not a random hooch!), and he's definitely better than her video ex. But doesn't it seem a little weird watching Beyoncé marry someone who's not Jay-Z? I wonder if she plays this video for him when he forgets to put down the toilet seat.
Though not as fast-paced and choreography-heavy as her usual efforts, Beyoncé's "Best Thing I Never Had" allows fans to see a softer (yet still diva-ish) side of the global megastar. And if you're the type of person who gets their jollies from watching beautiful weddings (here's looking at you, royal wedding fanatics), this video is basically wedding p0rns at the highest level. Enjoy.
