Cher fans are pumped about her return to the studio, and they were probably even more excited when they found out she called in the big guns to collaborate on new material. Well, actually, let me rephrase: Cher called in the biggest gun -- aka Lady Gaga -- to pen a new single on her forthcoming album. "The Greatest Thing" was cowritten by Lady Gaga and her producer/bestie RedOne. The song was originally intended for the Lady herself, but when it didn't make the cut, the kind Mother personally gifted it to the Burlesque star.
"The Greatest Thing" demo (which Cher has already gushed about via Twitter) begins with that classic pop flavor, which so clearly defined Cher's 1998 hit, "Believe." Over the track we hear a fully Auto-Tuned Gaga sing, "I don't know why you hurt inside/Or what was said to make you cry/I hope that you can see you are the greatest thing to me."
Though it's driven by a strong RedOne beat, the current form of "The Greatest Thing" lacks a surging hook, à la "Believe." But then again, this is just a demo. We have no doubt that the final version of the song will be perfectly, quintessentially Cher.
