As the great poet Martin Lawrence once said, "Daaaaamn, Gina!" Three snaps in a Z formation go out to Miley Cyrus and the bangin' black dress she wore at the Starkey Hearing Foundation Gala in Minnesota this past weekend. We usually spot the "Can't Be Tamed" singer out in jeans and a t-shirt, but homegirl pulled out all the stops for the occasion... because Minnesota is known for its fancy galas?? Whatever, we'll take it! And it was for a good cause, so even better.
Seriously though, doesn't Miley kind of look like an Oscar here? She's not naked and dipped in gold, but the skin tight black dress paired with a simple updo and no jewelry leaves little to the imagination.
See ladies, it just goes to show you: You don't need everything hanging out everywhere to look sexy. You can be in a long (one) sleeve dress and still bring the boys to the yard.

+ Justin Bieber done got himself another tattoo, y'all, but this time he took his dad along for the ride. The Bieber fam got matching Hebrew letters on their rib cages. Take a look at the pics to see if you can figure out what they say. (BuzzFeed)
+ If you didn't get enough of Paramore in their latest video, "Monster," check out the newly released behind-the-scenes footage from the shoot. The band got tons of bruises during the making of this video. That's called "passion," guys! (Idolator)
+ Congratulations to Lauryn Hill! The singer welcomed her sixth child, a baby boy, into the world over the weekend. No word on the name yet, but I'm guessing it's probably not "Mike." (Rap-Up)
+ Go behind the scenes with a dapper Patrick Stump on the set of his "This City" video, a forthcoming single from his much-anticipated upcoming album Soul Punk, due out Oct. 18. Spoiler alert: There is no city in the "This City" video. (MTV News)
+ Demi Lovato is heading to the studio with Timbaland! The prolific producer said earlier this year, "You are amazing, girl. I'm like…not an easy person to please, and I'm very impressed." Um, how do we get Timbaland on our side? #coolestfriendever (Neon Limelight)
+ If you haven't read Russell Brand's tribute to Amy Winehouse, do yourself a favor and do so. Sometimes comedians can be very poignant. (BuzzFeed)

It takes a special kind of person to be put in this kind of insane, overwhelming, y'all-are-getting-dangerously-close-to-my-personal-space-bubble situation and not freak the eff out, but Taylor Swift is handling it LIKE A BOSS, per the usual. The "Back To December" singer looks right at home in this wild -- dare we say it -- Beatlemania scenario as she wrapped the fourth consecutive sold-out show in the New York area last night.
You would think that someone of Taylor Swift's crazy famous status might be all, "I'm a celebrity, get me out of here," but T. Swift is on cloud nine as she runs through the crowd at her show. And that's why we heart her! She's always appreciative of her fans and loves to get as personal with them as she can. Taylor's bodyguards, on the other hand, are all, "You've got to be kidding me with this ish AGAIN." Come ON, guys. You only had to do this 98 times at 98 shows in 17 countries worldwide (on Taylor's "Speak Now" tour). Pshhh. Buck up.

This might seem like it's out of left field, but Big Time Rush's "If I Ruled The World" video is totally like Selena Gomez's "Love You Like A Love Song" video, guys. No, the BTR clip doesn't feature any dudes serenading them on the beach with sitars (unfortch), but what it does have in common with Sel's video is time travel, and lots of it.
At first, the video kind of looks like NBD as the Big Time Rush boys are shown in a recording studio laying down vocals per the usual. But soon enough the precocious pop stars are space-hopping all over the place. Their first stop on "Tour De Earth" (we named it that, send royalty checks) is a Hawaiian beach fully decked with hula girls. Next they make a cameo at the gates of Buckingham Palace, drop by the Taj Mahal and then swing back around for a pit stop at a cool temple probably somewhere in China. These boys would have aced my Advanced Themes English class.
At the end of the video, all the people Big Time Rush met along the way come together for a huge dance party on the beach ('cause why not?) only to then be left by the guys who find themselves right back where they started -- in the studio. So basically "If I Ruled The World" is like a G-rated David Lynch film but without the unsettling "I need to take a shower" feeling after.

The tragic death of Amy Winehouse came as a shock to her friends, family and fans. Since she was found dead this past Saturday, everyone from celebrities like Adele and Lady Gaga to Russell Brand -- who penned a heartfelt elegy to Amy -- to her fans have been reacting to her untimely passing.
Rory Rockmore, senior designer at Logo and a devout Amy Winehouse fan, created these colorful images of Amy as his own way of paying tribute and remembering her as the bold, vivid, larger-than-life star that her fans knew and loved. He wrote this about her:

After Britney Spears chose Nicki Minaj for her opener on the "Femme Fatale" tour, we weren't sure we'd ever see Pauly D (excuse me, DJ Pauly D) open for her again after his one night of glory when he spun for Brit's crowd at her Las Vegas show earlier this year. But it looks like Pauly's back for more! It's been confirmed that the "Jersey Shore"-er will join Brit during six of her shows in August, and we're going to need a Shake Weight to get our fist pumps up to par.
Fans can catch Pauly D DJ-ing for the "I Wanna Go" singer from August 17 through August 25 as the "Femme Fatale" tour makes its way from Michigan to South Carolina. You know homeboy is busting out his very best t-shirts for the occasion.
Somewhere in GTL Land, Pauly D is celebrating:

I got a chance to check out Rihanna at her Mohegan Sun show in Connecticut this past Friday, July 22, and I don't know if it was the heat or the sexy military theme, but I'm thinking about enlisting in the Rihanna Navy. (Or Army. Whichever will take me.) So if you've never seen Rihanna in concert, here's what went down.
Rihanna may claim to be a good girl gone bad, but the Barbadian-born diva demanded total discipline and control at her eye-popping Mohegan Sun set. With the help of military-themed stage props, including fuchsia-colored tanks and rifles, Rihanna commanded attention from every member of the audience. While chanting the lyrics of "Skin," she pulled up one very lucky male fan from the crowd, laid him out on a platform, and danced on top of him until the pair was slowly lowered below the stage. The man was never seen nor heard from again.

Drake's candor is at the foreground in a new Rolling Stone interview, which isn't much of a surprise for the usually open and honest rapper. Though you might not know it because he's super famous and (miiiiight be) dating a huge pop star (cough, cough, Rihanna), Drake is still insecure about his fame and works hard to keep himself grounded.
In the telling interview, the "Marvin's Room" rapper/singer comes clean about why he refuses to work in fancy recording studios and is open about his hefty stash of, how shall I say, "medicinal herb." He also reveals that Take Care, his forthcoming album out October 24, will boast collaborations with Lil Wayne, the Teflon Don himself (Rick Ross), and -- if Drake's prayers are answered -- Florence and the Machine's Florence Welch and The xx's Jamie Smith.
Just a side note: An extra "Thank you" from me to Rolling Stone. I was literally just wondering which Top Chef Drake was into. (FYI, it's Thomas Keller). But anywhere, here are our five favorite quotes from Drake's Rolling Stone interview:
1. On singles (as opposed to full albums): "I hate singles...with this album, I want to tell a whole story. I don't want people to just hear a piece and judge the album on that."
2. On his longtime producer Noah "40" Shebib's recording studio: "This is home. If I'm in a big expensive studio, it starts messing with my head about what kind of music I should be making."
3. On his first album, Thank Me Later: "In no way am I not proud of it, but I think I got caught up in making it seem big and first-album-ish. I was a bit numb, a bit disconnected from myself. I wasn't able to slow down and realize what was going on around me."
4. On his overall approach to Take Care: "The whole process has been about slowing life down and really pinpointing emotions."
5. On the last two lines of a verse: "If your writing is strong enough, those lines dictate what the hook is gonna be about, how you're gonna go into the second verse. You need the exit moment, you know?"

Sure, alcohol is bad for you and it can make you do some dumb stuff, but it's also the source of many a great song: Billy Joel's "Piano Man," Frank Sinatra's "One For My Baby," and now adding to that list, The Script's "Nothing."
When the Irish lads stopped by MTV last month for an exclusive Buzzworthy live performance, frontman Danny O'Donoghue confessed that "Nothing" is a song that's dedicated to the perils of drinking and dialing. It's actually more about unrequited love, but everyone loves a drunk dial story.
In the video sneak peek of "Nothing," we see guys of The Script leaving a bar late at night as Danny stumbles around the sidewalk singing about missing an ex-lover while his friends/bandmates try to keep him from falling over (and from being arrested for public intoxication, probably). By the end of the clip, it's pretty clear that the drunk dial didn't turn out in his favor. They rarely do, dude. TRUST.
+ Watch a sneak peek of The Script's "Nothing" video below, and don't miss the full-length "Nothing" video when it premieres this Thursday, July 28, on MTV and MTV.com!

It's hot as balls in New York City. (I can say "hot," right?) It's humid, sticky, muggy and all sorts of other adjectives to describe the kind of heat wave that has me sweating bullets in the time it takes me to walk from my front stoop to the 7-Eleven on the corner, which can't be more than 500 feet away. Oh, and as I write this, it's also currently raining, because it's not enough for my hair to deal with humidity; it's gotta battle moisture, too.
When it's this hot out, there's no point in leaving the comfort of my air-conditioned bedroom -- and if I am forced to leave my air-conditioned bedroom, then there's really no point in putting effort into my appearance because I'm going to look like a wilted piece of lettuce the second I step outside.
All this talk about the heat wave got me thinking about the four elements -- earth, wind, fire and water -- and, more specifically, the songs that these phases of matter have inspired. To get closer to nature, check out songs by Bright Eyes, Jawbreaker, The Carpenters and Tegan And Sara.
Finally, learn more about me and all my musings by visiting my website and following me on Twitter (@redpatterndress).

1.) Bright Eyes' "Four Winds": If I could only listen to one band for the rest of my life, I'd probably choose Bright Eyes -- and/or any of the musical offshoots from prolific frontman Conor Oberst. "Four Winds" is a rambling, old-fashioned, folk-infused protest song, representative of the alt-country twang on 2007's Cassadaga. Conor's voice is mesmerizing, as always, and the song has such a timeless feel, it's hard to believe it's less than five years old.
2.) Jawbreaker's "Fireman": I'll probably lose major cred points by admitting this, but I didn't really get into Jawbreaker until my mid-20s, and the first album I heard was Dear You. I immediately fell in love and thought to myself, "If all their records sound like this, I NEED to get their entire catalog STAT!" Unfortunately, all of their records didn't sound like Dear You, and now they sit gathering dust in my closet. Many critics consider the band's major-label debut a flop, and the LP created so much tension within the band that infighting caused Jawbreaker to call it quits two years later. I still kick myself for never being able to see the band play live, but I still hold on to hope that the guys can bury the hatchet and reunite before I die. Hey, if Axl Rose can finish Chinese Democracy, anything's possible, right?
3.) The Carpenters' "Rainy Days And Mondays": I'm not usually a fan of '70s AM rock, but this lovelorn classic gets me every time. What can I say? I'm a sucker for a good -- yet completely unnecessary -- saxophone solo (i.e. Lady Gaga's "The Edge Of Glory"). Then again, who isn't?
Listen to "Rainy Days And Mondays"
4.) Tegan And Sara's "Soil, Soil": Clocking in at only 1:23 minutes, "Soil, Soil" sounds more like an interlude than a full song, but that's part of what makes it so beautiful. Tegan And Sara's album, The Con, is filled with unrequited love songs, and this one is definitely at the top of the heartbroken heap. Example lyrics include: "All you need to say to me/Is call (call)/And I'll be curled on the floor/Hiding out from it all/And I won't take any other call." For anyone who's ever waited by the phone and wanted to dig a hole and hide until it rang, this song is for you.
