British singer/songwriter Neon Hitch has been busy prepping her upcoming debut album Beg, Borrow and Steal, but the singer found some time to cover Wiz Khalifa's "On My Level" in her own inimitable way.
Neon Hitch's version of "On My Level" retains the slow, ominous vibe of the original, though adds a Middle Eastern touch to the stoner anthem. She only gave us the first verse of the song, but it'll have to do for now. The accompanying video, directed by Trevor Cox, shows a booty-shorted Hitch strolling through London’s Chinatown district, talking to locals and inviting a select few to help her on the track.
This isn't Neon Hitch's first attempt at an unlikely cover, as the singer has already taken on Snoop Dogg's "Drop It Like It's Hot" and Ellie Goulding's "Starry Eyed." But here's hoping this picks up the trend of unexpected, cross-genre covers, something that we hope happens a lot more now that everyone listens to everything at all times. (Thanks, internet!)
The former roommate of Amy Winehouse has been buzzing for a few years, first as a signee to Mike Skinner's (The Streets) now-defunct record label The Beats and then as a signee to Warner Bros, where she co-wrote tracks for Ke$ha and Sky Ferreira. While no official release date has been set for Beg, Borrow and Steal, the singer's release of lead single "Bad Dog" gives fans hope for a full-length soon.
