The Reggaeton/electro-pop-inspired Black Cards took the stage at Lollapalooza this weekend, and it happened to be in front of their biggest audience yet. Not bad considering the duo, made up of Pete Wentz and Bebe Rexha, haven't even released their debut album yet. Their set at the festival was intended to give Black Cards fans a sense of "Black Cards 2.0," since during the early stages of the band Pete didn't think he was giving it his all. "I don't feel like I was able to completely immerse myself in it, because I had all these other things going on in my life," he told MTV News.
Well, it sounds like now Black Cards are ready to go for it as the band turns up the volume with their new single, "Take Me Down (Higher)." Singer Bebe Rexha lets loose as listeners can hear an almost M.I.A.-like carefreeness in her vocals. And when they're paired with the super fun electro backing track, what you get is a pretty solid mid-tempo pop song. We've said before that their earlier track "Club Called Heaven" gave us a No Doubt Rock Steady vibe, but this time the band threw in what kind of sounds like music from Tetris. A unique combo, but it works.
The Black Cards debut album will feature appearances by Travie McCoy, Neon Trees frontman Tyler Glenn and Shaggy. (Seriously. That Shaggy.) No release date has been set.
