Judging by her new "My Love" lyric video, it looks like R&B/ retro soul songstress Nikki Jean (and recent "Buzz On" alum) might be a bit of a logophile (that's "word lover" for you philistines out there). In other words, she's just like us! We've seen a wide range of lyric videos come across our desks, and while they're always fun, Nikki's is one of the only ones we've seen that uses actual things with letters on them to build actual things with words on them. Kind of like in ye olden days when people sent postcards and went to the library and stuff. (Snoozer!)
In "My Love," Nikki employs pretty much anything and everything to get the lyrics of her song across the screen: magnets, children's toys, jewelry beads, rice, pennies, dimes, crayons and (my favorite) Scrabble pieces. The various letters in different shapes and colors dance across the lens in stop motion animation, and it perfectly complements the fresh doo-wop/Motown vibe of the song. IMHO, it's adorable.
The only thing that would make this video cuter is if there were fewer words and more Nikki. We don't have too many females in the game right now trying to bring back Motown, so we're thinking we're going to be hearing a lot from Ms. Jean in the future. Show us who you are so we can remember that face!
