It's one of this year's most unlikely collaborations, but somehow, someway, rapper Soulja Boy, rock singer-songwriter Andrew W.K. and pop duo Matt & Kim converged on Converse's new Rubber Tracks Studio to recordĀ "I'm A Goner," the latest in the company's "Three Artists, One Song" campaign. And it works! Uhh, most random collabo ever?
The song, produced by Matt Johnson of Matt & Kim, doesn't stray too far from the duo's bouncy, cheerful synth-pop roots. Still, it's a bit jarringĀ to hear the guy who told millions how to "Superman dat ho" rhyme next to Matt's nicest-guy-ever voice. Andrew W.K., A.K.A. the guy who joyously encourages you to party on every song, differentiates, eschews yelling for a soulful rasp, playing on the title and promising, "You're never ever gonna find me."
"When Kim and I sat down to write 'I'm A Goner,' we knew we wanted to make a song people can party to," Johnson said in a statement. "Soulja Boy and Andrew W.K.'s lyrics and energy bring a whole new element to the song that we couldn't be more excited about."
The track follows last year's "All Summer," a similarly incongruous collaboration between Kid Cudi, Best Coast's Bethany Cosentino and Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij.
