Lady Gaga's Queen-sampling, country-rock hit "Yoü And I" has turned into a soothing electronic track thanks to UK band Wild Beasts. The indie rock quartet remixed Jo Calderone's track, which originally featured a slowed-down version of the anthemic drums from Queen's "We Will Rock You," into something you'd find on those club compilations with names like Ibiza Chillout Vol. 428. And we dig it.
Having removed the most over-the-top features of the song, the remix loops one line -- "This time we made love, this time baby, you and I" -- over skittering synths, hollow drums and loping piano to create a track that hews more toward Everything But the Girl and Massive Attack than the Shania Twain comparisons the original received.
“The unlikeness of this match was perhaps what compelled us to take it on,” Wild Beasts vocalist Hayden Thorpe said. “Gaga in many ways is the epitome of what we are not. She is the butcher to our butter knife. The essential thrill is always to keep eluding what is expected of us and what we expect of ourselves.”
