JoJo's big comeback has been brewing for some time now. We thought she was about to knock every other pop songstress off the charts when she previewed her undeniably hooky "The Other Chick," so we were kinda shocked when we found out that it wasn't going to be JoJo's new single. That is until we heard "Disaster," the song chosen for the honor.
"Disaster" is as radio-friendly as "The Other Chick," but it's meatier and more emotional. Backed by a thumping drum and acoustic guitar, in her gorgeously gritty R&B tone, JoJo sings of a relationship turned sour: "I'm trying not to pretend/That it won't happen again and again like that/Never thought it would end/Cause you got up in my head/In my head like that." OKAY, PAUSE -- who keeps dumping JoJo?! You know she's gonna sing about it! And I would never want to be put on blast by those vocal chords, just sayin'.
The synths kick in, the drums get louder and JoJo belts out that chorus like it's the last chorus she'll ever sing: "'Cause the walls burned up/And our love fell down/And it turned into whatever/Now we're saying never." Towards the end, JoJo takes "Disaster" to a whole new level of amazing as she belts out some riffs that could legitimately give Mariah Carey a major run for her money.
