Neon Hitch has been spending as much time perfecting her debut album, Beg, Borrow and Steal, as she has providing the world with some seriously legit covers. Earlier this month Ms. Hitch set the web ablaze with her cover of Wiz Khalifa's "On My Level," and today she's back with her unique take on former MTV PUSH artist Kreayshawn's viral hit "Gucci Gucci."
The cover's super-stylish clip shows Neon gallivanting in the streets of New York trying to hustle fake designer bags. To no avail, she advertises her faux wares to hot dog stand vendors, random finance men, and semi-interested women who run away when they realize Neon's purses came from a factory in Jersey and not famous 5th Avenue stores. Then, Neon cools down with some interpretive dancing in a refrigerator (?). Yeah, we don't know.
Neon Hitch's "Gucci Gucci" video is just the icing on the cake -- the real standout is her voice. Slightly reminiscent of the late Amy Winehouse (who was also Neon's roommate a few years back) and Cher Lloyd, Neon's distinct tone is that of a well-trained R&B crooner mixed with the rhythmic sensibility of a seasoned rapper.
While there's no official release date yet for Beg, Borrow and Steal, Neon Hitch fans can cop her single "Bad Dog," out now.
