Australia's always been a reliable exporter of all things electro-pop -- from Kylie and Dannii Minogue to Empire of the Sun and Cut Copy. Now it's time for another act on the brink of a breakout to get some stateside lovin': Sneaky Sound System.
The Sydney-based dance outfit got its start back in the early '00s as a collaboration between producer Angus McDonald and MC Daimon Downey. Years later, the two met their group's soon-to-be lead female vocalist -- Connie Mitchell, a fabulous disco diva with a powerhouse set of chops -- when they found her singing in a park. She's perhaps better known as the infinitely more fierce "Miss Connie."
Sneaky Sound System released "I Love It" in 2006, a pulsating disco tune that plays like a 21st-century update to Donna Summer's "I Feel Love." The song ended up hovering on Australia's ARIA Top 100 for more than 70 weeks, shattering the record for longest run on the chart... ever. The group went on to release their self-titled record later that year, spawning several more singles, including "UFO," a phenomenal alien jam that long predates Katy Perry's "E.T."
In 2008, the group released their solid follow-up, 2, resulting in even more incredible singles including "16," "Kansas City" and the devastating break-up jam, "It's Not My Problem." And after Downey's amicable departure back in 2009, Sneaky Sound System have downsized to a duo between Miss Connie and McDonald.
Just two years later, the twosome have returned with an incredible third original studio effort: From Here to Anywhere. From the funky '70s disco bass lines on "Friends," to the bouncy '80s beats of "Big," to the chilly '90s club sound of "Really Want to See You Again," Sneaky's latest selection is nothing short of a cross-generational dance floor smorgasbord, all given a smooth, sneaky gloss of 21st century production.
