With Kid Sister's much-awaited new EP Kiss & Tell out Nov. 29, the fiercely manicured Chicago rapper and Kanye West protégé has just dropped her first video in more than a year. One of the hottest tracks off the "Kiss Kiss Kiss" mixtape released in early 2011, "Gucci Rag Top" gets the remix treatment -- a guest appearance by Fool's Gold labelmate Danny Brown -- and a brain-bending video that's like the world's coolest Tumblr come to life.
While Kid Sister cutely mugs for the camera and shows off her trademark mile-long nails, a Tumblr-style wall of crazy-random images scrolls on and on behind her -- everything from old-school Polaroids, fuzzy dice, and snow cone-eating tigers, to the cover art for Newcleus' 1984 hit "Jam On It" (a nice nod to Kid Sister's electro-hop roots) and an Andy Warhol banana painting that pops up just in time to rhyme with "Hannah Montana." One second there's a shot of former Gucci head honcho Tom Ford, the next there's Garfield tricked out in hot-pink shades and a Hawaiian shirt. And for Danny Brown's mid-track rap, the Detroit MC gets superimposed into a scene from early-'90s urban-crime movie "Menace II Society."
"Gucci Rag Top" was directed by Alex 2Tone, one of the designers behind Los Angeles-based streetwear label True Love & False Idols. The label's mascot, Reggie (a cuddly yet badass cartoon koala), makes many an appearance in Kid Sister's make-believe Tumblr, not to be upstaged by all the other super-adorbs animal pics that turn up... in true Tumblr fashion.
