"The MTV Iggy Show" brings us the happening sounds from around the world, and as host Heather Holliday tells us in Episode 6, "You never have to leave your couch." Consider it your passport for globe-trotting, without the hassle of customs and shelling out for plane tickets. This week's destinations include Iceland, London and China.
First up is Iceland, which brims with excellent music talent of all genres. Indie rockers Who Knew just released their debut album, Bits and Pieces of a Major Spectacle, in 2010, which they recorded at Sigur Rós' and their own studio. Check out their "Sharpen The Knife" video -- the group of goats they play for may appear unmoved by Who Knew's catchy refrains, but the song garnered them tons of love.
Next we hit London for Lioness. She's been in the hip-hop and grime game since 14, and her roar has been heard as part of the M.Y.T. (Master Youth Team) trio, and also with her brother and cousins in Mastermind Trooperz. Through her skills and mixtapes she's built a name for herself, and she's traded verses with other grime gals such as Lady Leshurr and Amplified Dot. Watch her dubstep-flavored "Don't Tell Me" video, where the club banger tune gets everyone moving.
Finally, Beijing, where AV Okubo resides. Their video for the punked-up "Breakwave" plays out like a movie (with credits and subtitles), and has a plot that involves electrified paddleball, Ultraman/lazerbeam-eyes and animation interspersed within it. Not sure what the story's actually about, but with all its jumbled cult pop culture references, it's ass-kicky regardless.
Stop back next week for another around-the-world musical voyage with "The MTV Iggy Show."
