Nothing like a new Jason Mraz jam to ease us back into the real world after that holiday break. “I Won’t Give Up” is the latest from the mellow-minded singer, who’s been a bit quiet since his 2008 uber-hit “I’m Yours.” And now that he’s back, he’s not going anywhere: “I don’t want to be someone who walks away so easily,” he sings. “I’m here to stay and make the difference that I can make.” The fresh track’s wispy acoustic guitars and patient melody remind us of Irish crooner Damien Rice‘s “Delicate,” though when Mraz soars into the chorus, it’s with his own signature full-blast hook.
“I Won’t Give Up” comes with an adorbz take on the standard lyric video, offering its words scrawled on notepads, desks, vintage postcards and letters. (Remember handwriting?!) We bet Mraz still buys flowers and holds the door, too.
The gentleman’s long-awaited next album is expected in February (hopefully just in time for Valentine’s Day). We’re feeling inspired: Maybe we’ll go all old-school in 2012 and start snail-mailing our BFFs. Well, unless they’re on Twitter. Have you seen the price of collector’s edition duck stamps lately? Pshhh.
