Preview Katy Perry’s New Song, ‘Part Of Me’!

Listen to Katy Perry’s “Part Of Me”

So on a scale of 1 to Freaking Out, I’m basically this about Katy Perry’s upcoming Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection rerelease, which builds upon the original album’s already massive success, packing a ton of epic remixes and — start shaking and crying now! — THREE NEW TRACKS. And now, my teenage dreams are legitimately coming true, because it’s just been confirmed that one of those songs will be Katy’s utterly flawless “Part of Me,” which she’s releasing as her next single! Squee!

The song, which leaked in demo form in late 2010, was one of the most uplifting and gorgeous songs that emerged from Katy’s Teenage Dream sessions; penned with frequent collaborators Dr. Luke and close pal Bonnie McKee, it’s a heartfelt midtempo about emerging unscathed and stronger than ever from a painful relationship. “This is the part of me that you’re never gonna ever take away from me,” Katy sings over an aerobic beat. It’s one of those songs that makes me want to burst into tears and drive way too fast on the freeway into a gorgeous sunset, my luxurious, electric blue tresses streaming in the wind behind me. (Oh wait, I’m confusing myself with Katy Perry. NVM!)

“Part Of Me” picks up where “Teenage Dream” and “The One That Got Away” left off: Wistful and heartbreaking and inspiring, it’s the perfect musical response to recent news in Katy’s personal life, and it will maybe (probably?) go to No. 1. No big. (Sidenote: When I interviewed Bonnie McKee a few months ago, she told me how much she loved “Part of Me,” too! Twinsies!)

“Part of Me” is up for presale on Amazon, with a release date set for Feb. 21, and the 30-second snippet sounds even better than the demo, featuring punchier instrumentation and a more robust kick, but Katy’s vocals sound just as perf as ever. And that single artwork? Hello, killer curves. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to put on my blue wig and go drive off into the distance.
