Kendrick Lamar is officially the "Hottest MC" in the game!
Congratulations are in order for Kendrick Lamar! MTV has officially named the West Coast rapper the "Hottest MC In The Game," beating out people you've DEFINITELY heard of, like 2 Chainz, Rick Ross, Drake, Kanye West, and more, some of whom did not take their placement very well. That's OK, 'Ye -- at least you were honored, unlike rappers like Nicki Minaj and Jay-Z, who didn't even make the list.
After he accepted his award during the MTV Jams special K-Dot performed a celebratory rendition of his slow jam "Poetic Justice." Such a giving king, that Kendrick.
Watch Kendrick Lamar perform "Poetic Justice" after being crowned MTV's "Hottest MC In The Game," and watch the debate that led to Kendrick's win after the jump.
In gaining the top spot, Kendrick told MTV, "You know what's crazy, we were looking at the years of the different MCs, and we were always like, 'Man, we gotta get on there. We gotta at least get on the list.' But to make it No. 1, that's a whole 'nother thing." Well, we don't like to brag or anything (OK, maybe we do a little bit), but we definitely saw Kendrick's win coming. Not only did we name him one of the 11 Artists To Watch in 2012, but we fell hard for his magnetic debut album -- good kid, m.A.A.d city -- when it dropped last October. Apparently, we weren't the only ones who felt you were the best this past year, since your album sold enough copies to be certified gold. With all your accolades, both commercial and critical, now you can take it all in and celebrate, Kendrick. You are now officially known as the "Hottest MC In The Game."
