The “Everything Is Embarrassing” co-writer tries Drake on for size.

Trust us, even if you’re drawing the biggest blank ever on the above photo, you’re definitely familiar with Blood Orange. The British songwriter-producer-artist triple threat also goes by Lightspeed Champion (and less frequently, his given name, Dev Hynes), and he’s cowritten with Sky Ferreira on her bummer smash “Everything Is Embarrassing,” and produced tracks for Florence + The Machine, Solange, and apparently even Britney Spears (for the recently teased “Album 8″).

Now, he’s set his sights on Drake‘s synthy jam “Hold On We’re Going Home,” and the result is kinda like living in that pottery wheel scene from “Ghost” for 2 minutes and 41 straight seconds — except Demi Moore and the Swayz are more naked and, like, go to third base or something.

Taking Drake’s Marvin Gaye vibe on the original cut a step further, Blood Orange channels multiple retro reference points simultaneously, melding a ’70s-funk bass instrumental with an early-’80s New Romantic-style whispered vocals.

The tone of the song seems altered as well: Whereas when Drake repeated the “Just hold on we’re going home” chorus, we pictured him comforting a familiar love interest who’s starting to fade as their cab heads home for the night — i.e. the night is over. This cover, however, projects possibility, as if the narrator’s just met someone on the dance floor, exchanged charged glances, and takes off in favor of what’s to come — i.e. the night is only beginning. It also projects sexiness. Lots and lots of sexiness.

But that’s just us! Give it a listen below. If you’ve ever wanted to know what it would sound like if Sky Ferreira and Miguel‘s voices gained bodies, made sweet, sweet love, and had a baby (and named it Sensualeigh because that “-leigh” spelling is really hot in baby names RN), this is it.
